Some have found it difficult to accept its institutions and their configurations. Thus, there have always been fundamental contradictions stemming from Ethiopia’s state formation process, and we have not adequately addressed them in a way that would create consensus among key actors. Another layer we need to consider is that we have a very violent and autocratic political culture. Whenever there are contests for power, political differences, or disagreements over policy or institutional arrangements, the method of resolving them has more often than not been conflict. Imposing one’s will and vision on others through violence and force has been how we have conducted politics for generations. And once in power, using autocratic means to consolidate authority has been common practice. This autocratic and forceful approach, combined with the flawed state formation process, has produced many wounds, grievances, and violations. We have not been able to address these in a way that is satisfactory to most Ethiopians. On top of this, attempts to resolve these problems have often been divisive, emphasizing differences at the expense of what unites us. As a result, our politics has become polarized and ethnic-based.

By so doing she delegitimized the process, and as a result, she was dismissed from her position as Chairperson of the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission and reassigned to Public Service. This was done to silence honest criticism regarding how the amendment consultation process was conducted through intimidation, violence, and propaganda against the opposition, forcing the unpopular Bill down people's throats. What's even more interesting is that on the same day the President fires/reassigned Majome, he also fired the head of CIO after he'd just been in office for one year. Rumors are the CIO boss was critical of CAB3 and was not willing to use his agents to persecute people who oppose the Bill, and the President and his advisors weren't happy about this, so they fired him an #CAB3

We support the Women's Reservation Bill, but the way this government has brought it is politically motivated. We have consistently supported women's reservation - in 2010 and again in 2023, when the Constitutional amendment was passed unanimously. Our demand is simple: implement the amendment instead of using it as a political tool. Secondly, the government is playing tricks on delimitation. All of us in the Opposition are united in this, and unitedly we have decided that we will oppose this bill. Let me make it clear, we are not against Women's Reservation. We are against the government's attempt to link it to an unclear census and a future delimitation process. The executive is taking powers that should remain with institutions and Parliament, creating scope to alter delimitation whenever it suits them politically. We have already seen such manipulation and deception in Assam and Jammu & Kashmir. That is why we will continue to fight unitedly on this issue.

This picture or the video is of the time when the inquest process was over... At no point in time could anybody enter this area who was not authorized. Nobody entered who was not associated with the investigation process..."

We are all in favour of the Women’s Reservation Bill. However, the way in which it has been brought is questionable, and we have serious reservations about it. It is politically motivated. The Modi government is acting in this manner to target and suppress opposition parties. We have consistently supported the Women’s Reservation Bill and have insisted that it should be implemented on the earlier amendment passed. On delimitation, the government seems to be playing certain tricks. Therefore, all opposition parties are going to take a united stand and fight in Parliament. The Division of Revenue Bill and Appropriations Bill must be in line with the adopted Fiscal Framework and Revenue Proposal. The question becomes if the Minister is set to introduce two new versions of these bills, which Fiscal Framework will they be in line with as according to the Money Bills Amendment Act. There would now need to be a reversal the adoption of the previous Fiscal Framework, the introduction of a new Fiscal Framework and the new Division of Revenue Bill and Appropriations Bill - this is on top of his new amendment Bill. If this is possible before the 01st of May 2025, we more than welcome such efforts.

[WATCH Q and A on Mayoral Candidates] The ANC will in due course announce its mayoral candidates, we have concluded the process of interviews. We will announce them before our Manifesto Launch which will take place in Riverside, Diepsloot on the 15 of August. We will register all our names by the first of September. We are registering more than 10 000 candidates, this campaign will be wall to wall and we will contest everywhere in the country. Our candidates are undergoing a rigorous process of vetting on criminal records or any implications. The ANC has never decided on candidates on its own it has always involved the community, this is not new. The ANC must be allowed to follow its processes.
