This is pretty sick. Reverse it, have the pilot's pod forward - like a crystal gymbal buoys in place above it's centre of mass. it's stem, the firing pin.

From an engineering point of view, turning that thing should be problematic. I’d split the monowheel into two, so controlling the speed of each half separately would allow you to turn. Bonus: controlling the direction of each half will allow you to rotate in place.
