This lack of investment leaves Kenya exposed to evolving threats ranging from terrorism and cyber warfare to transnational crime. Recent events paint a dire picture: In February, dozens went missing from Turkana after a militia attack from Ethiopia. On April 29, five quarry workers were killed by al-Shabaab in Mandera. On May 2, five police officers were shot dead in Lamu. On March 15, more than 100 al-Shabaab fighters raided Mangai village in Lamu. These are just a few examples. With the exception of the Tanzania border, Kenya is facing relentless incursions by insurgents along its porous frontiers with Ethiopia, Uganda, South Sudan, and Somalia. The United States has been hit with a tsunami of meth, and sharing expertise, intelligence, and capabilities across borders is critical to turning this crisis around. These missions are incredibly dangerous, especially when confronting violent cartel networks on their own turf. Tragically, this operation resulted in the loss of two Americans and two Mexican officers. We honor their service, sacrifice, and courage. Rest in peace. Since he can’t control the state, we’ll do it for him. We saw union activists and organizers be involved in these efforts to resist our operations. So, there is something going on here where you have this sophisticated resistance being mounted against the federal government. And we’re looking into that. We’re going to look into who the leaders of the operations are.

The National Commissioner stated that immediate intervention measures will be implemented such as: ▶ we are enhancing and heightening our crime combating operations to deal decisively with these illegal mining activities… ▶we are deploying more police officers on the ground such as crime intelligence officers, members of the hawks, detectives and tactical units to prevent and combat these illegal mining activities. ▶ We have also established an integrated and multidisciplinary intervention team within the PROVJOINTS AND NATJOINTS to ensure implementation and enforcement of our country’s laws. What is currently happening here, is illegal and detrimental to the environment, including water sources and most importantly, poses a health and imminent safety risk for our communities. This is theft of minerals which belongs to all South Africans and which legally done can contribute to economic growth, community development and decent jobs in the area. It’s important to highlight that only the DMPR can legally issue a permit or license for any mining activity. So anyone who is not in possession of a permit from the DMRE to mine, is committing a crime. ▶This intervention team will include officials from various departments led by SAPS inclusive of the Department of minerals and petroleum resources, department of water and sanitation, the department of forestry fisheries and the environment, the department of home affairs, the department of justice and constitutional development and others. Yesterday evening, I inspected the vandalized section of the Lameco Flyover in Osogbo. I commend the hardworking engineers from the Ministry of Works who have swiftly mobilized to the site to ensure the immediate repair of the damaged section. During my visit, I received direct briefing from the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works, Engr. Bashiru Bello, on the circumstances surrounding the act of vandalism. It is unfortunate that some saboteurs, whose sole objective is to undermine our developmental strides and destroy the legacy of this administration, would resort to attacking public infrastructure built with taxpayers’ resources. I enjoin security agencies to strengthen the protection of public infrastructure across the state and ensure that those responsible for this criminal act are identified, arrested, and brought to justice. These projects belong to the people of Osun State, and every well-meaning citizen has a responsibility to protect them from acts of sabotage and vandalism. My administration remains resolute in its commitment to delivering quality infrastructure and will not be deterred by the actions of those who seek to impede our progress.

JD Vance says in his interview with Hannity that “the very best” security guarantee for Ukraine is to give the United States “economic upside” via the “minerals deal.” He argued economic investment offers better security than military aid. Here are the issues with this. The “minerals deal” won’t lead to security guarantees or additional assistance from the U.S. Trump has said this many times and Putin would not accept these terms. This is something Ukraine must accept. In addition, this theory that if American companies are going to be mining natural resources on Ukrainian land, Putin won’t attack is also a fantasy. There will be no mining operations because there will be no investment capital to fund these operations. I am an investment professional. I work with Sovereign Wealth Funds and other large institutional investors in private markets investments. They traditionally would be the investors in natural resource and infrastructure development. None will invest in Ukraine until a lasting peace is established. Any thing short would be a breach of their fiduciary duties. Ukraine can ask some of the European allies or Canada that have Sovereign Wealth Funds if what I am telling you is true. The U.S. also doesn’t have a history of using its military to protect companies operating in war zones. They will instead tell them to leave. Ukraine already gave up its nukes for security assistance from the U.S. with the goal of protecting its 1991 borders and the U.S. never honored that. Now the U.S. wants Ukraine’s to give up its sovereign wealth for a hope and a prayer? I really hope Ukraine does not make the mistake and sign a minerals deal with no explicit security guarantees or additional aid. This would be a tragedy. It would be a tragedy.

Now the U.S. wants Ukraine’s to give up its sovereign wealth for a hope and a prayer?
