My co-founder Toni and I each recently swallowed a camera. Today we're launching Zaniah Health so you can see what's happening inside your gut too. The gut is the body's largest immune interface, and research keeps linking the gut to health far beyond digestion. We track sleep, HRV, bloodwork,...

@MrsToniToomey Very interesting, congrats. Is the business/use case you envision similar to consumer full body MRI?

@MrsToniToomey Thanks! That's definitely the closest analogy! Though we do expect that a decent number of patients choosing Zaniah will have known GI symptoms vs. just pure preventive use case.

@MrsToniToomey So if no lesion is found, you stay calm about your digestive future?

@MrsToniToomey I think we've got a lot of data to capture before being able to make a claim like that. But each exam can be used by clinicians for future decision making.

@MrsToniToomey 30 years of unexplained symptoms before anyone looked directly at the ileum. That's not a diagnostics gap, that's a listening failure. Glad this exists. I hope her workup goes smoothly.

@MrsToniToomey for the curious, following is the first one back from a decade ago. It was a huge innovation that just disappeared suddenly with no direct replacement. Now @ZaniahHealth is basically originating a novel replacement with even better technology!

@MrsToniToomey Haha well we do envision capsules being done at the scale of millions per year, so it will make sense to get the cost down….

@MrsToniToomey Thanks, Dave! One of the nice things about working in the GI space, is that the field itself has a nice sense of humor :) Doesn't hurt to laugh a little while working on saving lives, detecting cancer earlier, and improving care for chronic diseases!

@MrsToniToomey curious how the visuals will correlate with standard markers like zonulin and fecal calprotectin. it's the part that would let someone track change quantitatively, not just visually. have you run any of those correlations yet?beh

Matt Schwartz profil fotoğrafı
Matt Schwartz10 gün önce

@MrsToniToomey Amazing question. Answer is not yet BUT we’re running an observational study from day 1 to capture medical history, blood labs, microbiome, and fecal calprotectin data. Our AI foundation model is perfectly suited for correlating visual changes with exactly these metrics.

@MrsToniToomey Great to finally see, congrats! I've been waiting for something like this ever since in ~2024 my gastro at @nyulangone told me they no longer offered the og gold standard "Smartpill"... because @Medtronic simply stopped making it (?!). You're patching a real clinical need/gap!

Matt Schwartz profil fotoğrafı
Matt Schwartz10 gün önce

@MrsToniToomey @nyulangone @Medtronic Thank you! Capsule endoscopy is amazing technology and we believe it should be much more widely available for patient access. Even if your GI doc offers it, insurance won’t usually cover it unless you’ve already had an upper endoscopy and colonoscopy. Backwards!

Nick Bear profil fotoğrafı
Nick Bear10 gün önce

@MrsToniToomey Congrats on your launch. I assume this is not a replacement for a colonoscopy. Is it meant for those under the age of 50 w/o a family history of colon cancer?

Matt Schwartz profil fotoğrafı
Matt Schwartz10 gün önce

Thanks! And that’s right, definitely not a replacement for colonoscopy or recommended colorectal cancer screening. It’s intended for patients who are interested in their gut health, longevity, and preventive medicine to get better data on their GI tract. Ultimately up to patients, their doctors, and our doctors. We expect a lot of patients with chronic lingering GI issues will be interested!

@MrsToniToomey This is awesome! Quick question for you - with the rise of GLP use, does the slow down of motility from these drugs impact your device or increase risk at all for using the pill?

Matt Schwartz profil fotoğrafı
Matt Schwartz10 gün önce

Thank you! And very astute question! There are reports of longer capsule transit time with GLP use. Something our clinical team will be tracking closely. Also very interesting early research on GLP impact in IBD. We’ll be looking at whether capsule can assess inflammatory changes associated with GLP use.

I'm incredibly proud to share that Alan is raising €480m (Series G), valuing the company at €5.5bn: the largest round in our history, led by Prosus Group , alongside our amazing long-term partners Teachers' Venture Growth and Index Ventures (Jan Hammer ), and new investor Dara Holdings. 🚀 Ten years ago we set out to do something simple and hard: turn healthcare from reactive to proactive. To build a partner that helps people act before a problem becomes a bigger problem: bringing insurance, prevention and care together in one experience. Because health can't wait. Today that conviction is no longer a bet. It's a model that works: → 1.1m+ members → €800m+ in ARR, growing 53% YoY → Profitable in France, live across France, Belgium, Spain and Canada So why raise now, and why Prosus? Because we're at the meeting point of two powerful forces: a company that has proven its model, and the leadership we are taking in AI for health. AI will make personalized prevention, navigation and support available to everyone, and that changes what's possible for the millions of people we can help. And I couldn't be more delighted to do this next chapter with the Prosus teams. Prosus is one of the world's great technology operators, with $100B+ under management and a track record of building category-defining consumer platforms across the globe. They came with deep conviction, a long-term horizon, and exactly the expertise we need now: international expansion, consumer products, AI infrastructure, and an ecosystem we can plug into. I have loved every single interaction with their team: Fabricio, Fahd, Makram, Denis, Helen, Euro and many others! It makes so much sense because we share the same belief: the future of health is built at the intersection of insurance, prevention, care and AI. Great health is a universal right and prevention should be too. This round gives us the means to move faster: expand to new countries, deepen our presence where we already are, invest even more in AI and product, and pursue the strategic opportunities ahead. To our members, our 850+ Alaners, and everyone who has believed in this mission:thank you. 🙏 We're still at the very beginning of what Alan can become. Prevention insurance is the category we're building. Let's make it the new global standard. If this is the kind of mission you want to spend your energy on, we're hiring. Come build it with us. 💙

Chris Voss on the gut feeling you should never ignore: The former FBI hostage negotiator says your body knows when someone is lying even before your conscious mind does. In the clip below, Christopher Voss explains the science his team is actively teaching: "Learn the difference between your gut and your amygdala for lack of a better term, your fear centers and know which one is which." He's drawing a critical distinction most people miss. The amygdala triggers panic, anxiety, and self-doubt. The gut, however, is something else entirely: "Your gut is ridiculously accurate. Our gut is being fed by all these different inputs that we're aware of or that we have yet to be made aware of." What kind of inputs? Voss gives a concrete example: "The tone of voice doesn't match their words. The head tilt." Your brain is already processing these micro-signals and routing them through your gut before you can consciously articulate what's wrong. As Voss puts it: "You've got a supercomputer in your brain." The problem isn't that people lack this instinct. It's that they override it: "As soon as you start listening to your gut, you can't explain it at the time but you got a bad feeling. And later on, you saw it. It all came together." That lag, the gap between the gut signal and the rational explanation is exactly why most people dismiss it. They wait for logical proof that never arrives in time. The lesson from one of the world's most experienced negotiators is surprisingly simple: the feeling in your stomach during a conversation isn't anxiety. It might be data.

Liam Coen says analytics should inform decisions, never make them “We leverage analytics. Absolutely. We leverage it for the data and the information to make a decision, not to make the decision. That’s not how it goes. Ever.” “You have the data, AI, analytics, it is unreal. What are the true decisions that lie in the moment, in the now? What are the facts that you need to know? That’s great to leverage.” “We have game management. We have an analytics department to gather that information. But we are not making decisions solely based on those numbers. Ultimately, it has to come from the gut and from yourself.” “Is this the best decision for the Jacksonville Jaguars right now? Because that’s all you can live in. You’re living in every single play.” “I’m going to lean aggressive offensively, especially in year one when you’re trying to instill confidence. You’re trying to instill a mindset of, ‘Yeah, we are good.’ I believe we can go get fourth-and-two. We can.” “We talk about momentum a lot as a team. You can feel that. You can feel momentum. You know when you got it and you know when you don’t. I feed off that as a coach and I feed off the player’s energy on the grass and when they have confidence and momentum I want to roll with it, I want to keep it.” “When you have it you wanna stomp on it, you want to make them feel it.. That’s where the aggression comes in, you want to hold onto that and put your foot on the pedal. And as you grow as a coach there are times where you might be like, ‘Alright, may need to kick here. It’s going to be one of those kind of games.’” “So you have to be prepared, know your gut, go with your gut, feel this, all that’s going on around you, and make the best educated decision.”

Tongue diagnosis explained Stick out your tongue right now. If you see a white coating, scalloped edges, or it’s bright red, your gut is screaming for help. Here’s what each sign means. In functional medicine, we use tongue diagnosis to assess gut health instantly. Your tongue is a direct window into what’s happening in your digestive tract. Here are the 5 tongue signs that reveal gut problems: Number 1 – White coating on your tongue means candida overgrowth. That’s yeast taking over your mouth and gut, feeding on sugar and causing brain fog and fatigue. Number 2 – Scalloped edges—where you can see teeth marks on the sides—means you’re not absorbing nutrients properly. Your body is swollen and inflamed from gut dysfunction. Number 3 – Bright red tongue indicates severe inflammation and possible B vitamin deficiencies. Your gut isn’t producing or absorbing the vitamins your body needs. Number 4 – Geographic tongue—patches that look like a map—signals food sensitivities and leaky gut. Your immune system is reacting to foods leaking through your gut barrier. Number 5 – Thick yellow coating means bacterial overgrowth and poor digestion. Your stomach acid is too low to break down food, so bacteria are fermenting it instead. When you fix your gut, your tongue clears up within 2-4 weeks. It’s one of the fastest visual confirmations that your protocol is working.Take a photo of your tongue today. Eliminate sugar and gluten for 14 days. Add a probiotic and digestive enzymes. Take another photo in 2 weeks and compare.Go look at your tongue right now in the mirror. Which of these 5 signs do you have?

"Every team wants to win a championship, but not every team wants to do the things required for a championship. And here's the thing: it's easy to be an average team. It doesn't require a lot. It's less adversity to be average in the world. The consequences of being average aren't easy. We end up wearing them. There's strain and struggle that comes with that too. The standard is just lower to be an average team. To be a championship team, to be champion, to be a championship team member here . . . I'm not gonna lie to you . . . I'm going to tell you the truth. It is harder. It is. The question is: Is it worth it? Some people say, "Oh it's not harder work." Yes it is. It's harder work. You can pursue comfort or you can pursue excellence. If we pursue comfort, we gotta give up some excellence. But if we pursue excellence, then we're just going to face more adversity. Everyone who's ever accomplished something excellence has had to overcome it. We are here today for a reason. Two reasons actually. Reason #1 is let's make sure that we identify and realize the opportunities that are in front of us. Reason #2 is let's make sure that we are preparing for the adversity that those opportunities require. And just understand: every single time you lever up your opportunities and you identify, "Oh there's something more I can do, more I can achieve. I can get better. I can earn more. I can do this." It's going to be matched with the adversity that comes with it. I want to make sure we are prepared for both of those, so that we're not chasing big opportunities and then getting mad when things start getting harder along the way. Is that fair? Does that make sense?"

Around 80% of the world is now struggling with sleep, but what if we’ve been trying to fix the wrong problem? For years, we’ve been told that poor sleep comes down to our habits, routines and discipline... But Stasha Gominak believes there is a much deeper conversation we need to have about what is happening inside our bodies. Stasha is a Harvard-trained neurologist who spent more than a decade researching sleep after noticing patterns in thousands of patients. She left traditional medicine because she wanted more time to understand the experiences people were having and the questions that weren’t being answered. During our conversation, she shared why she believes listening to patients changed the way she understood sleep, health and the human body. We discussed things like: - Millions of people sleeping enough hours but still feeling exhausted. - The hidden role REM sleep plays in how we think, feel and function. - A surprising link between vitamin D, gut health and sleep. - The relationship between sleep, memory and emotional health. The relationship between sleep, memory and emotional health. - Mistakes people make when trying to fix their sleep. Stasha's whole point is that sleep isn't about hours in bed - it's about what's actually happening in your brain and body while you're asleep. If you’ve been doing "everything right" and you’re still waking up exhausted you will take a lot from this conversation. Out now on all platforms. Let me know what you think of this one in the comments ❤️👊🏾
