CANADA POST = It’s an antiquated dinosaur of a system that desperately needs to be euthanized. Month before Christmas and they want to hold the taxpayers hostage?!? Fuck that! Meanwhile, the couriers and other delivery type companies are salivating at what’s going to happen. 🤷🏼‍♂️🤨

Did you see their demands? "According to the union, its list of demands includes wage increases aligned with inflation, enhancements to group benefits — such as coverage for fertility treatments and gender-affirming care — improved protections against technological changes, more paid medical leave, paid meal and rest periods and higher short-term disability payments." source-

Amazon has already rerouted deliveries to other providers for rural Canadians. They started about 2 weeks ago and I am getting much faster service. Canada Post employees are going to demand themselves right out of a job and I wouldn’t even miss them.

I check once a month, if that. And it’s 90% fliers.

I think the real issue is not how much they're asking, but how much everything costs, that their current salary is not good enough anymore. It all boils down to inflation, and the need to stop it. Canada Post used to actually be revenue neutral, I don't know what happened to change that. Maybe starting the community mailbox program up again is not a bad idea. Need to cut somewhere. I just feel these could be problematic for elderly or people with mobility issues, especially in winter.

Look at the protests with Tim Hortons not hiring Canadians. Yes lets shut down Canada post and let Sunny Singh buy it out for pennies and bring all his cousins to work for nothing also. That $2billion deficit was from building new sorting facilities. Yes I say cut administration at the top because they are sucking it down. They already cut wages of new hires down years ago so it’s only those that are ready to retire make the $30/hr. With the cost of long increases these last few years what do you consider a decent living wage to work for Canada post?

Marty I agree that changes need to be made. However, unless you have worked in a post office, you really have no idea what you are talking about. I worked in one, small town of 3000 people and the daily volume of mail and flyers is overwhelming, not to mention the parcels with online shopping. It has to be done daily. Flyers (here anyway) is optional. You can choose to not get them.

Canada Post owns 91% of Purolator, which generates ten of millions in profit annually. It is a direct competitor, though Canada Post has the monopoly on many services such as yours. It's just another protectionist crown corporation sucking the taxpayer teat making a few wealthy.

We check our mailbox slot every day because where we live (rural) get broken into, there’s been thefts of the entire mailbox itself. And you know what happens to thieves who get caught with stolen mail? They get arrested & released & keep on doing it over & over.

In the City of Edmonton I collect mine from one of those boxes too. Door to door needs to be abolished. I like the once a week idea. I don’t check mine more than once every week or two anyways.
