Also.. your "connecting to PC" problems make me laugh as I just spent 2 weeks struggling, trying to figure out why my Q3 Link stopped working... apparently Link no longer supports newer Nvidia GPU drivers and took them 2 weeks before they told me.

oof. I use virtual desktop and it's been quite reliable for me. Occasionally there are issues with newer Nvidia drivers, but theyre resolved quickly

Can u use Virtual Desktop for development? I thought it was just for streaming games and... thought u needed Link for development.

VD has fantastic 2d desktop streaming! and combined with its own openxr runtime (VDXR), it's super easy to jump bw 2d<>VR

I need it that when I hit Play in Unity, it brings it up in VR.. AFAIK, that only works in Quest Link, but I should look into whether it works with other software... also, I prefer tethered streaming to Q3, which I think only Quest Link does, but I heard Steam Link also supports it now, but I assume that only works with Steam Games.

Tethering is now supported by virtual desktop and steam link actually! As of a few weeks ago For your unity use case, if you’re using meta quest runtime/sdks, then yeah, quest link is the only option afaik

Using OpenXR.

Azad Balabanian's profile picture

Oh dude then you’re set. Get virtual desktop and on the pc streamer app, set the runtime to VDXR. You’ll get the instant 2D to vr back and forth like I showed above

This person on reddit had the same issue and shared how they fixed it! I saved the link in case it happens to me

same issue, it’s multi link that was causing issues and I’ve been told disabling helps. I’m on beta latest also. mine is working right now, no issues today 🤞

It's fully busted. I just unplugged it completely. My network is already rock solid anyways, but it sucks that the Steam Frame hardware is so unreliable

Get out of the steamvr beta. Fixed the Marge majority of my problems

Take it out of the usb ports on top of the case and plug it directly into the motherboard. I have the same case and those external USB ports are always giving me issues.

Your USB device hub might be trying to save power given its a high bandwidth transmitter, check your USB hum settings in device manager

Work fine on my PC. I use a connector on top. Just Make sure the adapter doesn't share the controller with something else in USB that is using a lot of the bus for it. Can't say for your top connector but it might share bus with something.

adamska.eth's profile picture

Use a real usb port in the back, these front ones are the worst for these issues, its basically a hub and hubs are unreliable. Also to prevent any other issues just make a udev rule to stop power saving on that usb device.

I thought about plugging it in the the back of the PC but am i not supposed to have line of sight between the dongle and the headset?

Strigampire's profile picture
Strigampire5 days ago

@Elesoterik The dongle is just a Realtek 8832CU Wireless LAN WiFi 6 USB. Same thing than any wireless dongle, no need to be direct line of sight.

Azad Balabanian's profile picture
Azad Balabanian5 days ago

@Elesoterik Good to know

gar_ee's profile picture
gar_ee5 days ago

@strigampire @Elesoterik it being a wifi 6 adapter is exactly why you want line of sight, 6ghz has terrible penetration and gets blocked by metal pc cases

Strigampire's profile picture
Strigampire5 days ago

@Azadux @Elesoterik It doesn't use such thing as "6ghz".The number isn't the band it use. It use 2.4 and 5ghz. The issue was mostly a Wi-Fi 5/AC. This isn't an issue with Wifi 6.

adamska.eth's profile picture
adamska.eth5 days ago

@gar_ee @Azadux Lol, it does use 6ghz. They chose the 6ghz band because very very few devices use it and it wont have interference. And its also true 6ghz has low penetrative power but we arnt talking about using it on the other side of a wall, its a pc case, it will be fine.

adamska.eth's profile picture
adamska.eth5 days ago

@gar_ee @Azadux @JohnSilksong hey @grok can you confirm the steam frame dongle uses the 6ghz frequency band and stating that isnt an oops mistake because its a wifi 6 adapter, but it actually uses it

Could be tricky windows power management on the USB front hub. Better get a super speed USB extender cable and run it from the back port. Better for signal too if you're dangling it away from your PC's metallic box.

Mine always shows up as ready and available but it simply won't connect whatsoever until I unplug the dongle entirely :/

Not sure if it needs to be but is it in a USB 3.0 slot? Mine works fine

Not had an issue been 100% solid for a few days. tried looking at the port differences USB 2-3 ect of the motherboard inputs?

Same - dongle is a mess for me. Not connecting, disconnecting and after 20 mins keeps changing fast between poor, goof and excellent with massive package loss

I’m constantly stuck on waiting and I’ve tried the rear ports, I’ve tried updating everything and disabling power saving. Even updating my bio. And steam support is taking a bit to get back after each reply.

Currently having a similar issue. The adapter is stuck waiting and blinking white. Hasn't once connected to it. Opted in to betas got out of betas. No dice.

Walter Brink's profile picture

Same issue except it wouldn't work at all no matter what I did. Then activated beta updates for frame and it worked. Later when I started up the frame again, it didn't work doesn't matter what I unplug and re-plug, restart or anything. So it is currently russian roulette whether it will work or not

Wifi 6 APs can get pretty toasty so it probably turns itself off to conserve power and to not just run its radios 24/7, but they probably didn't design the "wake up" correctly.

My troubleshooting would be: 1. I'd blame Windows 2. I'd try the back USB port 3. I'd blame Windows more

Stop using the front USB.

Yup. Remote streaming -> wireless adapter (Steam frame) -> unpair (and then pair) sometimes takes multiple times, very annoying
