wow a balanced and nuanced take? i don't think you're using twitter correctly

@glorpinity it’s a bit more nuanced than this, bungie could’ve made marathon without sacrificing destiny at all if they didn’t spin up 4 other projects at the same time all taking up studio resources

Anyone who thinks Destiny 2 is ending because of Marathon is clueless and their opinions can be safely discarded. Destiny was doomed one way or another for many, many reasons, but ultimately the blame lies at the feet of Bungie's management and higher-ups.

The market is speaking loud and clear

Destiny needed marathon, d2 needed a new engine and wasnt able to fund the r&d of an engine while also funding the development of new content, so bungie tried to create a 2nd source of revenue to do that, it’s literally basic business

1. I have always liked & RESPECTED you. No lie. 2. That didn't work out for Titanfall players told to go play Apex. 3. "Killing Marathon," is not productive. However, I'm going to be over here in the D2 hot tub with these sick ass QoL changes & mountains of new loot. Peace bro✌️

MARATHON WAS ANNOUNCED BEFORE THE FIRST ROUND OF LAYOFFS. NEW IP’s WERE BEING WORKED ON BEFORE THE FIRST ROUND OF LAYOFFS. Release was imminent at the time. Stop putting it on one game ffs. You are feeding the same issue by not being thoughtful of the circumstances.

Like you said killing marathon kills Bungie but Jake what if by doing so prompts Sony to form a new studio by bringing back some OG devs and new people to make D3 👀

I don’t think not making marathon would have made as huge of an impact as people believe, though. End of the day it would’ve been the same management behind the helm, maybe another 2 more years woulda been squeezed out of the game but, I doubt that woulda fixed its core issues

I’m not interested in extraction shooters, that 10 minute loot phase to just have 2 teamfights that end in less than a minute seems unappealing, now I do think that the game looks beautiful and it does have is thing going for it. 1/2

Bungie will never admit it abandoned D2 PVP for extra resources and man power on marathon which doesn't really have much of a playerbase thus the huge falloff in numbers since the launch spike and I don't expect it to hit any high numbers even in the upcoming seasons

The Destiny community has done nothing but moan and complain about the game since it launched. Showing "so much love and passion" LOL...so much so that pretty much all of them quit playing the game. Bungie mismanaged the IP totally, but the players were never happy with the game.

worst part is it never had to be like this man. Destiny still had so much potential and the franchise alone was not over. I really do think the layoffs and persistence with Marathon development prematurely ruined the studio and destiny. Honestly, awful decision making by the leaders and we all pay for it now. But hey, we got a new extraction shooter out of it at least.

The only issue with any of this. I’ve been playing Destiny pretty much my entire adult life. It’s the game I enjoy it’s the game I want. I’m not “kill marathon” just because the game genuinely doesn’t appeal to me. I just don’t see why we’ve had to sacrifice our own game

As a Destiny1&2 player this Marathon situation is like your wife asking you for alimony and child support before the break up to support her side pice..the problem is Destiny community isnt in to cuckholding dude.

I don’t agree with supporting marathon but also not trashing it. Bungie created an extraction shooter than caters to a small demographic of Destiny players. It’s PvP. I play Destiny for PvE and that’s why I’m sad Destiny is done. So there’s nothing I could do to save Destiny.

@MalificusDoggo I really liked all of the @Bungie HALO games, the first Destiny, obsessed with marathon, but I never really cared about D2, idk this whole situation sucks lol

The line has been drawn in the sand. Fuck Marathon!

Promoting marathon almost certainly just makes marathon their new cash cow. Anyone who played titanfall 2 remembers this entire drama saying that apex would make titanfall 3 and look what happened there

3.6 billion and they couldn’t “fund” a Destiny 3? Idk man something aint right.

they would just monetize marathon more, like they did when destiny 2 blew up

You're the goat, Jake

Can you imagine if all those Marathon devs stayed working on the crucible and didn’t abandon the PvP side of Destiny for *years*?

This is why I like you. This is 100% how I feel as well. Very well said.

Our best chance for D3 is if Sony dismantles Bungie, gets rid of the entire C-suite there and splits the studio into two separate entities; Durandal games for Marathon and Golden Tricorn games for the Destiny franchise. The expected layoffs at Bungie needs to be from the top...

Jake, you forget this is Twitter. Balanced and nuanced takes are going to be a HELLSCAPE for your replies, dawg xD Always the brave soul out here. Love this take, GL with your phone not becoming a pocket sun brotha' o7

No reason Marathon mechanics couldn't have been the center of a D3 pvp mode.

That COULD be true, but it could also be true that if Marathon does well then Sony perceives it as trading Destiny for Marathon worked and there’s no need for Destiny and they move on. @GernaderJake

After what we got with D2. I can’t get past all the issues and lack of support we got after asking and pleading for content and how we were treated. I’m cool on Destiny. D3 would be cool but I’m over Destiny. Marathon is awesome for me because I’m a Tarkov player. Fills the void.

That's exactly what I've been saying.

Marathon dies, Bungie dies too, it’s that simple. After Bungie dies, Sony keeps the rights and at some point will allocate a studio to make Destiny 3, it will be a poor COD or a half baked Halo Infinite, so if your at all interested in keeping the Destiny 3 candle burning then support Bungie, support everything they do, because to be total honest… that’s your only hope.

Wow, a content creator with a measured and dispassionate take on this. Thank you Jake

They bad at making decisions but good at making games #makebungieindieagain

Very flawed logic, Marathon success would prove that Bungie doesn't need Destiny would retroactively vindicate the decision from 2019 to divest from Destiny 2 PVP and later on from Destiny as a whole.
