My unprompted yapping regarding VRChat avatar optimization

I developed every avatar (and the world) used in this clip. Each of them are rated as "very poor" by VRC standards. Yet here we are, 40 users in a massive firefight and not a single person crashed once during this 2 hour event. Optimization is not dictated by the vrchat profiler.

This is literally the best outro ever hahaha I wanna say I agree with you 99% haha. The tiny bit of disagreement, or rather, a different take, is that nowadays automated tools for Unity can get you a really long way optimization wise!

I stuttered at the end and just went with it hahah But for real, some avis don't require that much work, a couple clicks in unity with an automated tool and you're good to go!

Learning how much performance is impacted on the VRC backend really has decided my stance on the “avatar optimization” ongoing debate. They made a 300 person instance run more smoothly than a 40 person one…optimized or no, all the more reason I’m not undoing my own hard work.

Highly recommend polytool, its the handiest thing ive gotten and can bring a verypoor to a medium or even good, its so userfriendly, has decimation, atlassing, mesh merging, all within unity

I'm surprised most people still doesn't use the imposter system if they don't want or don't know how to optimize their avi. It's the least they could do if they still want to be seen (at events that don't have avi performance limit).

ill optimize my avatar when vrchat uses an optimized rendering engine. my 4090 pc crawls in a small map/lobby all because they are using forward rendering path from 2012. its not the avatars, its the fucking game.

My 4GB gpu doesn't have much trouble in small worlds, I'd be worried maybe there's something wrong with your system
