ColdCard is dead

Appreciate the effort to help users migrate safely — this is important for protecting Bitcoiners today. But the bigger question for the ecosystem is: why should self-custody require every user to correctly execute a complex emergency procedure after a key generation failure? We need to keep improving education, UX, and security architecture together. The next generation of wallets should reduce catastrophic single points of failure, not just teach users how to recover from them.

Cuirious - in the event they are able to recover the stolen coins - if people destroy the wallet - how do they prove the coins where theirs and how much?

This is a bad move. Generate new seed phrase rolling dice. Get off the coldcard and use another hardware wallet for the new seed

As Nathan rightly points out, updating the firmware does not repair an already generated seed; that is why the protocol requires updating, wiping, generating a brand-new seed on the patched firmware, and migrating funds safely
