Okay, I got Claude Code to actually fly my plane now It controls the keys via Chrome by running it with `claude --chrome` There is some issue with the lift vs gravity formula though so it takes a lot of speed to take off, but it's really cool to see it control and fly the plane This means it can code the game and then play it to check in a loop to theoretically improve it without my help (haven't gotten there though) I run it like this btw: `IS_SANDBOX=1 claude --dangerously-skip-permissions --chrome` (Run at your own risk)

This umpire made an unpopular call, but is it the correct call? Man on first and the batter hits a line drive to the shortstop- a line drive. The shortstop drops the ball, tags second and throws to first for the double play. The umpire called an infield fly rule, called the batter out and sent the runner back to first. He said the shortstop intentionally dropped the ball, thus he instituted the infield fly rule. I’ve never seen that before when it is not a pop up. Do you think it was a good call by the umpire or a smart play by the shortstop or both a good call and a smart try by the shortstop? Have you ever seen a line drive called an infield fly rule?

There's a fruit fly walking around right now that was never born. eon just released a video where they took a real fly's connectome — the wiring diagram of its brain — and simulated it. Dropped it into a virtual body. It started walking. Grooming. Feeding. Doing what flies do. Nobody taught it to walk. No training data, no gradient descent toward fly-like behavior. This is the opposite of how AI works. They rebuilt the mind from the inside, neuron by neuron, and behavior just... emerged. It's the first time a biological organism has been recreated not by modeling what it does, but by modeling what it is. A human brain is 6 OOM more neurons. That's a scaling problem, something we've gotten very good at solving. So what happens when we have a working copy of the human mind?

This is how fast an SR 71 is. Eldon Joersz was selected along with his RSO George Morgan, to fly for the international speed record in 1976. This was in part for the bicentennial celebration of the United States. George Morgan had texted me that they should have made 2100 mph, they missed the mark by 7 miles. When they were going out of the gate, they had an unstart. That’s a momentary pause in the engine that literally causes the engine to stop for a few seconds. George was disappointed that they didn’t make it to 2200 but they opted not to start over and keep going. For many years how fast the airplane flew and how high it could fly were top secret. The defect cannot be repaired where the aircraft is, so it must be flown to a maintenance facility. It does not fly on a normal Certificate of Airworthiness. It flies under a Special Flight Permit: a one-time authorization that defines where the aircraft can fly, the crew required, and the operating limitations for that specific flight. I have been part of the process of preparing one of those permits. The defect is assessed. The risks are evaluated. The operating conditions are defined. The crew is fully briefed on the defect and its limitations. The route is planned around those limitations, and suitable alternate airports are selected. Then the aircraft departs, and you watch it leave, knowing exactly what condition it is in. That feeling stays with you. The permit exists because, in some cases, the safest option is to fly the aircraft under controlled conditions to a facility with the right people, tools, parts, and approvals, rather than attempt a repair where those resources are unavailable.
