New Glenn’s first and second stages are now mated – a big step toward launch. Here is a fun time lapse video (from the factory cameras) of us moving the integrated vehicle to the Transporter Erector (TE). The New Glenn simulator can be seen in the middle of the clip, an important part for ground support equipment validation. We will spend the next days on final checkouts and connecting the umbilicals. Stay tuned for rollout and hotfire!

Thursday, March 14th, 2024 #S28 and #B10 took to the skies for #Starship Flight 3. Building on the success of Flight 2, B10 completed its boostback burn making it the first #SuperHeavy booster to make a touchdown in the Gulf of Mexico. S28 completed its insertion burn making it the first Starship to reach the reentry portion of flight providing massive amounts of data for #SpaceX engineers. Both B10 and S28 provided amazing views and reached new milestones making Flight 3 the most successful orbital test of Starship to date. Congratulations SpaceX! We look forward to Flight 4, which could be right around the corner!

Now that Starship Flight 12 is completed, how did the new V3 Booster performance compare to the older Flight 11 V2 Booster and did the redesign, higher TWR and flight path management really make a big difference? I thought we would look at one aspect of the Booster design to help answer this question, specifically how well the new design reduces gravity losses during the launch to hot staging portion of flight. Come alone with me for a simplified aerodynamics & rocket engineering discussion and then do a direct performance comparison using video clips from the SpaceX live streams. My intent is to help appreciate some of the effort the engineers have put into the new V3 booster and Raptor engine designs to increase the capabilities of the Starship system and greatly increase the payload to orbit potential of Starship. Obviously there are many other considerations (it is rocket science), but I hope you find this helpful.

We're coming in hot (fire) with an update on our third stage: We have completed a full duration hot fire of the fully integrated Redshift OTV, qualifying it for flight. As always, our approach for this hot fire was to get as close to the real thing as possible. So it included a nearly 600s (10 minutes!) burn after an assumed stage separation, followed by a 40 minute coasting phase simulation, and a 30s orbit circularization burn. Welcome to LEO! The team will now prepare the fully qualified Redshift OTV for its shipment to SaxaVord, where it will be integrated with the payloads for the first test flight later this year.
