Newly released video shows Utah County sheriff’s deputies and Utah Highway Patrol troopers stopping a wrong-way driver on I-15 early last month. According to the original incident report, two deputies responded to an agency assist after reports of a vehicle traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of I-15 near mile marker 263. Deputies located the vehicle near mile marker 269. One deputy struck the driver’s side of the vehicle, spinning it into another deputy’s patrol car, which prevented the wrong-way vehicle from reentering traffic. Both deputies and both occupants of the vehicle were not injured. All three vehicles sustained damage. Utah Highway Patrol took over the crash investigation and investigated the driver for DUI. The Utah County Sheriff’s Office said the incident happened shortly after 4 a.m. on Jan. 24, calling wrong-way driving a recurring and dangerous problem on Utah roadways. The sheriff’s office praised the deputies for putting themselves in harm’s way and said it is grateful no one was hurt. UHP continues to handle the crash and DUI investigation.

Douglas County Deputies Assist in DUI Pursuit with Successful Grappler Deployment In the early hours of October 4, 2025, at approximately 4:22 A.M., Douglas County Deputies responded to assist the Aurora Police Department in pursuit of a suspected DUI driver traveling westbound on E-470, passing Gartrell Road. Douglas County deputies responded immediately and set up two sets of stop sticks along E-470 in an attempt to bring the pursuit to a safe conclusion. Despite these efforts, the suspect vehicle continued westbound. A Douglas County Deputy, operating a patrol vehicle equipped with the Grappler device, joined the pursuit along with another deputy. After positioning behind the suspect, both maneuvered to the front of the pursuit. The suspect vehicle, which struck the concrete barrier multiple times, was ultimately stopped when our deputy successfully deployed the Grappler just west of South Quebec Street. The vehicle was brought to an immediate and controlled stop. The suspect was compliant and taken into custody by Aurora Police without incident. Sheriff Weekly said, “I am proud of the seamless coordination between our deputies and our partners at APD. This incident highlights the power of innovative tools like the Grappler. By effectively deploying cutting-edge technology, we’re able to bring dangerous situations to a safe conclusion while minimizing risk to the public. NEW: Dallas man slips handcuffs, steals patrol car with officer inside, then jumps from moving cruiser on I-35 On May 30, 2026, Dallas police pulled over 37-year-old Stacey Huffman for a registration violation and arrested him for an invalid license, drug possession, and unlawful possession of a firearm. While handcuffed in the back of the patrol SUV, Huffman slipped one hand free, climbed through the partition into the driver’s seat, and took off with an officer still inside. The officer deployed his Taser, but Huffman ripped out the wires and drove erratically on I-35. After a short distance, Huffman opened the driver’s door and jumped out of the moving vehicle. He was knocked unconscious and remains hospitalized under police guard. Wrong-Way Driver Arrested on E-470 A deputy was headed into work on E-470 near Parker when they observed a vehicle traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes. Due to the median barrier, the deputy was unable to get behind the car but observed the driver swerving through oncoming traffic. Another deputy was quickly dispatched to the area and intercepted the wrong-way driver. During the initial traffic stop, the driver appeared to try to evade the deputy. The driver then conducted a U-turn to face the correct direction on E-470 and pulled onto the right shoulder. The driver was arrested on the following charges: •Reckless Endangerment (M2) •Driving Under the Influence (DUI) (M) •Driving on the Wrong Side of a Divided Highway (TIA) •Driving While License Under Restraint/Suspended (TIA) Excellent observation and quick coordination by our deputies helped prevent what could have resulted in serious injury or worse to other motorists.

Fogle repeatedly stated his life was over because of the DUI accident and his CDL. While at a weigh station on Interstate 5 for a breathalyzer test, Fogle reached for the deputy’s gun. During the struggle, Deputy Layton stabbed Fogle in the back.
