Today, there's a new proposal aimed at changing that debate: "data center dividends" for... the communities and their residents who have data centers as their neighbors. Henrico County put all the income from their Data Centers into a trust fund they are now using to provide housing grants for first time homeowners who had been in public housing or could not otherwise afford a home, It's a great solution. #RVA's #CodeRefresh provides ZERO GRANTS despite the push to demolish & build without any clear coherent plan. Local opposition often cites electricity prices as the main concern. First, when done right, data centers lower electricity costs and bring significant economic benefits to local communities. Second, the choice remains with the communities themselves. In Executive Order 14365, President Trump established a national framework for AI but explicitly carved out data center infrastructure as a state and local decision. Despite some fake news to the contrary, the federal government is not preempting the states on this front. Under President Trump, this remains a matter for local communities to decide — and as the President noted this week, those that choose to embrace them will see lower taxes, new jobs, and historic growth.
