What happens when a creative director experiments with Flow? Our very own Christian Haas shared insight into how he created his short film called, "Found." #MadeWithFlow “I used Flow almost as an actor, trying things out to see what was funnier or more charming. In the scene where the character is on stage as a cardboard tree, for example, I tried several different gags to see what was going to land better. My initial frame had only the character as a tree, then in Flow I would prompt different things that could happen. Like what if he falls? What if the spotlight can’t find him? What if there are more trees? And so on. Like a director giving notes to an actor on stage, I could watch in real time the result and pick the best take for the edit.”

Exodus, one of my most anticipated sci-fi RPGs, won't have a traditional character creator. Instead, you'll choose between a predefined male or female protagonist, with customization limited to things like hairstyles, scars, eye color, tattoos, and makeup. I understand why. The characters appear to be heavily performance captured, and it seems Archetype wants to preserve the original actors' performances. But I can't pretend I'm not disappointed. For me, creating your own character is one of the defining pillars of role-playing. It's the difference between playing a character... and playing your character. Even though I often played Shepard as default. It is good the devs are being transparent with expectations. If the game delivers on the original vision - a massive RPG with choices that have meaningful consequences, we may have a winner here. They have yet to rescind the promise of major time dilation consequences. I'll still judge Exodus on the experience it delivers - but a proper character creator is a feature many will genuinely miss.

One of the biggest challenges in AI video has always been making characters move naturally, from body language to facial expressions and small details. This example shows how far the technology has come. The character feels more alive, and the transitions between movements feel much smoother than traditional AI-generated clips. What excites me most is that AI video is moving beyond just creating beautiful images. It’s becoming a tool for building characters, telling stories, and exploring creative ideas in new ways. I can finally announce the project I've been working on with Joce ! Fondant is building a new app that brings avatars and vtubing to Web. Multiplayer lobbies for vtuber streamer collabs or just hangouts with friends, as well as character customization tools building up to a full creator. We are using a WebGL and WebGPU techstack, so part of the point is to provide a cross-platform alternative to the current Unity based app ecosystem, and also to build tools that people can use to create or modify characters without going through a DCC (Blender, Maya, etc). For now we're starting with the basics: multiplayer lobbies, VRM support, and some tools like merging accessories into existing VRMs in the quoted post, and transferring Custom Vertex Normals from proxy meshes. My role is stylized shaders and procedural character creation. I've been working on NPR Shaders and tools to help build and customize 3D anime characters in Blender for years. With WebGPU, we can bring it into Web. My hope is to build a full character customization system for the Web with next gen toon shaders, and also a matching set of tools in Blender for serious content creators. But it is early days still, and there's a lot to be done! Here's the latest WIP of the rig for fitting proxy meshes to new faces.
