I also like to teach division of fractions through common denominators. a/b ÷ c/d = ad/bd ÷ cb/bd = ad/cb, when b,d,c are not 0. I find that discussing fractions as counts of specific dénominations as a good introduction to the use of variables in pre algebra.

I literally recorded that one today for a later post lol

@Mrs_Lein

#TIL the partitive model. Thanks! Have you explained it before? I would like to gain better intuition of that model.

Hey just thought I’d share my “catchier name” when I talk through this w my students I refer to it as “Skip-Rip-Flip” ( skip over first fraction, Rip up the Division, and turn it to X, and flip is obvious ) lmk if u like It

So cool. I always love learning the “why” of operations that I have known for years.

I shared this with a few of my teachers 🤯😂🤣

I also like teaching it not just as “2/3 is the multiplier” but also “2/3 is the piece size”, aka “how many times does 2/3 go into 8?” With a model they get the reciprocal: 2/3 goes into *1 whole* …3/2 times Therefore 2/3 goes into *8* …8 times as many times = 8 * 3/2
