NEW: Touchable Objects In ANHolographic Display. — In a new study on the HAL open archive, scientists explored how three-dimensional holograms could be grabbed and poked using elastic materials as a key component of volumetric displays. This innovation means 3D graphics can be interacted with — for example, grasping... show more

oh boy! I can just imagine what this is going to lead to...

The latest medical breakthrough against joint pain and stiffness

Cool

The implications on a smaller scale, could be a game changer for phone manufacturers and users!

@BrianRoemmele This builds on Ochiai's 2016 breakthrough using ultrasonic waves to create tactile feedback in mid-air. The elastic interface creates localized deformation fields that match visual cues - our brains interpret this as solid objects due to multisensory integration.

Oh love it!

Thanks for sharing!. Excited to see how this shapes VR/AR interfaces!

You can use pose and finger detection to reach into a holograph and turn it. I can do this in Unity currently and can write it from scratch in less than a day. I was doing pose detection for remote coaching of gymnasts for an Olympics gymnast coach that used real time video for pose detection and for each phase of a movement was compared against an avatar skeleton of the "perfected pose" and graded. We were manipulating objects in VR with hand pose detection since 2017. If the holograph interface has a rotating and translating coordinate system then it is probably written in C or C++..python would be too slow it seems to me... which means I can write a plugin to talk to it and not have to use the bloody console in the background. Also..they use a skull..if you used their system for simulating surgery with real scalpels yer gonna rip the
