NEW: Video from source in Eagle Pass shows Border Patrol cutting through razor wire placed by the state of TX to allow migrants to enter & be processed after crossing illegally. Texas DPS tells me this is the first time they know of this happening, and that it’s being... looked into for potential destruction of TX property. The federal government’s position is that once migrants are on U.S. soil, under U.S. law, they need to be processed, and cannot be repelled or turned away. Texas is taking a much different approach, and has been physically blocking migrants under orders from Governor Greg Abbott. TXDPS tells me the location this video was shot at is private property, and that they have permission from the owner to lay down razor wire and arrest migrants for criminal trespassing. This Border Patrol agent is likely just doing what he’s been told - but this will likely lead to more friction between TX & the Feds, who have drastically different approaches at the border.show more

CBP RESPONDS: A CBP official tells me a Border Patrol boat encountered a group of migrants with several small children, and that in order to quickly apprehend them and get them out of the heat, a BP agent cut the razor wire to access the area “consistent w/ federal law”. CBP STATEMENT 👇🏻

Again, THIS WAS NOT AT A BORDER CROSSING. It was a checkpoint in the US WITHIN 100 miles of the border. So.... Border Patrol can have checkpoints up to 100 miles from our actual border. Drive through west Texas and Southern New Mexico, you'll hit a border patrol checkpoint. They will ask you your citizenship. This has been in place for decades....

They’re back! 🚂 Remember 2-3 years ago when I was reporting about migrants taking the train (La Bestia) and arriving to the border in large groups? Under this current administration, several caravans have left Tapachula in southern Mexico making their way to central Mexico looking for work. Reality is, they gradually make it to the border. Piedras Negras, across from Eagle Pass, is reporting 50-60 daily migrant arrivals. I reached out to my contacts and it turns out the migrant shelter in Irapuato, central Mexico, has been active assisting migrants. It’s the same place where they are once again getting on the train. Are we about to witness another wave of migrants at the border? They’ve been waiting in Mexico for 2 years now and are gradually getting closer and closer to the border. They’re back! 🚂 Remember 2-3 years ago when I was reporting about migrants taking the train (La Bestia) and arriving to the border in large groups? Under this current administration, several caravans have left Tapachula in southern Mexico making their way to central Mexico looking for work. Reality is, they gradually make it to the border. Piedras Negras, across from Eagle Pass, is reporting 50-60 daily migrant arrivals. I reached out to my contacts and it turns out the migrant shelter in Irapuato, central Mexico, has been active assisting migrants. It’s the same place where they are once again getting on the train. Are we about to witness another wave of migrants at the border? They’ve been waiting in Mexico for 2 years now and are gradually getting closer and closer to the border.
