Newt Gingrich says Democrats just pulled off a DOUBLE NEGATIVE with this shutdown. He’s been in politics for over 45 years, but he says what Democrats are doing at the moment is one of the DUMBEST moves he’s ever witnessed. Things could not look more bleak: “This may be...

Mark Zuckerberg on why he prefers to recruit people directly out of college In this interview from 2005, a 21-year-old Mark Zuckerberg is asked what he looks for in a new hire. There’s two things, he says. “Number one is raw intelligence. You can hire someone who has been doing software engineering for 10 years, and if they’ve been doing it for 10 years, that’s probably what they’ll be doing for the rest of their life. That’s cool — there are some things that that person can do and they’re definitely useful in an organization and can do a lot of stuff. But if you find someone whose raw intelligence exceeds theirs but has 10 years less experience, they can probably adapt and learn way quicker. Within a very short amount of time they’ll be able to do a lot of things that [the person with 10 years of experience] will never be able to do. So that’s the most important thing that I look for.” The second thing he looks for is alignment with what the company is trying to do: “People can be really smart or have skills that are directly applicable, but if they don’t really believe in it, then they’re not going to work hard or care enough to develop the relevant experience in order to succeed. The best people I’ve hired so far have been people who didn’t really have that much engineering experience. I hired a couple of electric engineers out of Stanford to do programming stuff, and they had very little programming experience going in, but they were really smart and really willing to go at it. The guy who just wrote photos was one of those guys, and if you’re willing to just do whatever it takes to get photos out, then you’re probably more valuable than someone who is just a career software engineer.” He concludes: “Those are the things I’m looking for and why I would rather recruit people out of college.” Video source: Stanford eCorner (2005)

Angry Democrat caller ERUPTS live on C-SPAN, torches Democrats over govt shutdown — announces he’s LEAVING the party. “I’m a Democrat, but I don’t understand what the party is doing… They’re holding out because THEY DON’T LIKE THE ORANGE MAN IN OFFICE. “So why are they blaming the other side when they’re the ones that have to come to the table and do the votes? They have to vote the right way to open the government and make sure that everybody has their checks and is getting paid. “And I think it’s kind of cruel to actually sit back and not participate because you don’t feel like the other party is doing what you want them to do. “There’s a trans section in there as well. They want to give money to afford trans surgeries for young kids. “And all this stuff that the Democrats have now gone into, which I am nowhere near. In fact, I think I’m going to be LEAVING the Democrat Party because this happens too often where they’re blaming the opposite party when they know they can do the right thing. “They need to do the right thing and reopen this government instead of keeping it shut down. Like they’re hijacking the American people. I’ve seen it before. We’ve seen them vote the right way when they’re in power, so why the hell can’t they vote the right way when they’re not in power? “So get this government back open. Get the American people what they deserve. And this is basically a Schumer shutdown. From what I’ve seen, from what I’ve been watching on C-SPAN, what they show [is] the Democrats whining and crying and blaming. That’s what I see.” The caller’s rant clearly left the C-SPAN host unamused. “All right, Jason,” she said before moving on to the next caller.

🚨 Hasan Piker and Chris Rabb Lay Out the DSA Playbook for Using the Democratic Ballot Line Against the Party This clip is a clean look at the socialist left’s bizarre frenemy relationship with the Democratic Party. Hasan opens by attacking Democrats directly. They “don’t love you,” “don’t care about you,” and “don’t care about your interests.” But he does not tell people to leave the party. He tells them the Democratic primary is the battlefield because it “determines the trajectory of the Democratic Party.” Then Chris Rabb picks up the thread. Rabb says he “identif[ies] as a democratic socialist,” but is “running as a Democrat because the system creates this narrowness.” In other words, the Democratic label is not the identity. It is the vehicle. Rabb makes that even clearer moments later. He says Democrats may share the same label “in this moment,” but “we are very different.” Then he tells voters, “You don’t have to love the Democratic Party to vote for me. I do not care because I’m not here for the party. I’m here for the people.” The result is a strange but increasingly effective hostile partnership. The DSA needs the Democratic ballot line because third-party politics is a dead end. The Democratic Party keeps absorbing candidates who openly reject it. And over time, that one-way arrangement lets the socialist left take more ground inside the party while still pretending to be outsiders. But what do Democrats actually get out of this arrangement?
