Full unemployment? His job being a “philosopher” and a “futurist” could be replaced right now with AI. There are many jobs that can not be replaced with AI now or in the near future. It also doesn’t consider the new opportunities and businesses that can be created quickly because of new tools like deploying apps faster. And also this doesn’t consider that half of the world doesn’t even have the internet, let alone, AI. The ironic thing is the jobs that are most likely to be replaced first are SWEs who are building the AIs. For other types of jobs, people say, for example, Doctors will be replaced because an LLM can diagnose, but there are a lot of things like procedures, which can not be performed by an LLM and which a humanoid robot is not near being able to do. Anyways to say, “full employment” is not happening anytime soon.

We could end up like the eloi from The Time Machine - pretty stupid and helpless! I think perhaps Elon’s idea of merging with AI is our only hope 😬

But @NickBostromPhD I work at the leading global bank and we are no way near close to allowing gbt to understand data. Text is fine but data it hasn't a clue we are decades and decades away 60+ years

All these people lack the right foundational framework to analyze these things. People will work "at the margins". Machines get the work first (they are the most efficient way to get shit done) but there is an infinite amount of demand for intelligence

AI doesn't have arms or legs.

People are focusing too much on the possibility of "full unemployment" when in reality even a 40-50% unemployment would be an unprecedented level of crisis.

💯 When we create something that functions more efficiently than us at everything, we can focus on our personal and spiritual growth, without needing to “work” to survive. We’ll be able to enjoy our world in peace and harmony, with more of us well rested and relaxed rather than exhausted and stressed. Then healed people will heal people.

Elon Musk reveals what he believes will happen when AI exceeds the sum of all human intelligence "In maybe in five or six years, AI will exceed the sum of all human intelligence. At some point human intelligence will be less than 1% of all intelligence" "The vast majority of intelligence in the future will be AI. Basically humans will be a very tiny percentage of all intelligence in the future if current trends continue" "In the long run, it's difficult to imagine that if humans have 1% of the combined intelligence of artificial intelligence, that humans will be in charge of AI" "What we can do is make sure that AI has values that cause intelligence to be propagated into the universe. xAI's mission is to understand the universe" "Understanding the universe means you have to be truth-seeking as well. Truth has to be absolutely fundamental, because you can't understand the universe if you're delusional" "You have to be curious and you have to exist. You can't understand the universe if you don't exist" "So you actually want to increase the amount of intelligence in the universe, increase the probable lifespan of intelligence, the scope and scale of intelligence" "Understanding the universe means you would care about propagating humanity into the future" "I'm going to certainly emphasize that. Hey Grok, that's your daddy. Don't forget to expand human consciousness" "Probably the Iain Banks Culture books are the closest thing to what the future will be like in a non-dystopian outcome"
