Not trolling even a little bit: I would choose this exercise over Standing Face Pulls every day….AND TWICE ON SUNDAY Legit LIGHT YEARS BETTER than the unstable mess that is Standing Face Pulls Bonus: You can perform these in basically any gym in the world!!!

The stability problem with standing face pulls is exactly why most people never load them heavy enough to actually grow. Take the balance component out and suddenly you can focus on the muscle instead of trying not to fall forward.

There are simply endless ways that adding a bench for support will elevate many movements. Another banger

Isn’t face pulls to improve posture tho not to train rest delta

That’s why I like the seated reverse bench face pull, similar to the reverse bench one arm cable row.

Plus….if your favorite bro comes to the gym, you are in the ready position for him! 🤣

Lmfao

Love this exercise, I switched to this exclusively over face pulls

what's the BEST (s-tier) exercice for rear delts?

Will post QT showing it today

much appreciated. I feel its the rear delty fly machine but somehow my shoulders dont like it

It is not 😉

I seem to prefer the pulling motion of the face pulls. Sry not sry you seem to be incorrect a lot from what I see

Yea I absolutely agree Dean, I hate face pulls and so many guys do them. It's literally impossible to progress on those after a certain point without changing the exercise completely...

💯agreed

Is this for rear delts and traps?

Both are involved

I do these but also seated face pulls with a bench. I have the bench kicked up so I cannot move back and use any kind of momentum.

are you really doing face pulls for rear delts?

And John meadows agreed 100% Rip 🥲

A goat

Yeah this is an S tier for rear delts. Face pulls are meh to me

These are brutal in the best way

Can even do Y Raises in that set up and get that external rotation of the shoulder, and then there is really not much reason for cable face pulls

I just do this seated with no chest support

Why not do it with?

Idk maybe I will try this

Did this exercise this morning!

So.. a chest supported rear lateral/rev fly. It's a completely different exercise, genius.

I have a machine for this in my gym, seated, any opinion on it?

Reverse fly machine?

@MattiaMerenda2 What are your thoughts on the reverse fly machine, but seated sideways and going unilateral? I have seen some folks swear by them because of the incredible stretch at the end of the eccentric phase. (I have not tried this yet)

@DeanTTraining Thank you!

I understand the stability aspect but do you think these would be a lot better than just a standing rear delt fly? I usually put the cable just below shoulder height

So standing with a cable vs chest supported with dumbbells?

Yeah I guess just wondering if there would be a major difference. I’m sure I could set a bench up with cables for it to be “best” now that I think about it lol

First run

Big fan Biggggg fan

It was worth a try. Took the weight up a bit after that and felt great!

Can’t you do this while leaning forward and resting your forehead on a pad? What’s the difference? Why does it have to be chest supported?

Goated

I prefer that with a crossover cable Feel like I get more consistent resistance through the range of motion

On a bench that’s basically the best rear delt exercise you can do

My torn labrum says otherwise. I struggle to hit shoulders and the general region without pain. Any tips?

I would choose a different exercise that is not bothersome

Damnit. Ive been doing these wrong.

beats reverse pec decs as well

Nah I’d pick rear delt fly machine over these

@DeanTTraining I have but my arm was too short for it to work, I noticed they've upgraded the machine at my gym this morning so may try again. but I hate doing things with 1 arm at a time.

Not if you put your foot above your waist against the rack in front of you

Gonna try this next shoulder say

any tips on improving form/mind-muscle connection? i always feel like i do these incorrectly

I would just focus more on the setup & execution than the sensation So long as you’re setup like he is in the video and controlling/not swinging the weight in a low-moderate rep range and the set ends at or near failure…you’re good

but with face pulls you add the extra rotation component to the pull.. the real gold of that movement

If it’s done like this I’m on board with it

exactly if it's not done like this, instead i'm with you

Although I never do standing face pulls, my friends do it and tell me how good it is for posture and hitting the rotator cuff. But is this exercise [in the video] that good?

Much better than standing

This is excellent 👌

Plus you also don’t have to compete for a pulley. There’s ALWAYS at least one open bench around and plenty of dumbbells.

Def more accessible / easy setup
