Why would I use something that will need to be replaced in a spam of years if I can build it to last forever? A lot of houses in Brazil are made like this, not only for durability but because we are used to wash the entire kictchen fom roof too floor.

Probably a high humidity (extreme tropical) or monsoon country where cupboards would get damp and rot quickly. We luck our climate and bugs allow cupboards.
