Nvidia recent revealed DLSS 5, a new AI graphics tech that uses generative systems to make video games look more photorealistic, but as a consequence seems to completely alter the artists' original vision. Here are our thoughts on the implications of this new technology:

In our Q&A today, Jensen Huang responded: “They’re completely wrong… you can fine tune the generative AI to your artistic style… if you want cartoon, toon shader, made of glass… it’s up to you. It’s not post processing at the frame level. It’s generative control at the geometry level. This is very different than generative AI. It’s content control generative AI.”

Did Cyberpunk 2077 just beat GTA 6 graphics? The NVIDIA DLSS 5 Neural AI leak allows modders to enable it for nearly any game now, from Gatcha games to Skyrim and now Cyberpunk 2077. YouTuber Swurvgaming shows off maxed out DLSS 5 Neural Rendering, which uses AI to render characters extremely realistically with higher fidelity than even GTA 6 arguable. Whether or not you like the look is something else. Many are calling it the worst thing they've ever seen, with uncanny valley and AI slop accusation. If you look at my other posts like DLSS 5 on Skyrim, you will see the look can be subtle too and there are sliders you can use to tune it. Subtle is better, IMHO. This is done via the RenoDX mod, which unlocks a still experimental NVIDIA DLL feature. This technology was first demo's by nVidia and took TWO 5090's to run. Now it's running at 30fps on a 5060 for many games like CONTROL. I think this tech is going to start dominating games, not just for realism, but for stylized looks and refreshing older games like Skyrim, where the tech works without that feeling of creepy alienation. This is just one filter. With AI you can train it for a lot of different looks, like Anime or even something like Arcane. Changing the look of a game will be something available at the flick of a switch and personalized by you, the player's taste.

Systems like OpenAI's new Sora video model, just shows us that anyone can create a pretty video or a beautiful picture using nothing but a text prompt. But if we are to use the technology to create interesting art, thought-provoking cinema, and great games.. we need control of the output down to a granular level if that's what our project calls for. We need better tools and better interfaces to interact with the generative matter. Here's another example of what that could look like. Imagine this combined with a system like Sora. With complete temporal coherence and an ability to lock down the look of elements once you decide they look as they should. #ThePowerofDreams #Sora
