Disney's new research on neural rendering really upped the game. They start by path tracing and then running light gathering on those paths. Then they train a little network, kinda like a NERF, to produce those lighting results directly. It essentially keeps the lighting team from requiring a full (complex) re-render every-time they move a light. But it keeps the lighting team fully in the driver's seat creatively. Definitely a great use of AI for advanced storytelling and animation.

I’ve watching hundreds, maybe even thousands of hours of elite MLB swings. This video work was done to determine their bat path. Their bat path determined their hard contact zone. As a catcher, my goal was to be above their bat path, or below their bat path. This was accomplished by utilizing velocity, movement, and obviously, location. The disruption of a hitter’s timing creates weak contact or swing and miss. Whenever I saw hitters that had a lengthy (3.5-4ft) of FLAT bat length in the zone, I knew that we would have to be very careful. These types of hitters had much room for error in their swing. They could be late, and line it oppo, or, they could be early on a hanger, and would pull it for damage. The more downward barrel tilt I saw, the more knob up I saw, and more barrel casting toward catcher I saw, it was always a lesser hitter I was watching. Perfect example here of a flat path. High heater, and flush contact. If you see barrel drop or a cast behind on this pitch, it’s a foul ball, swing and miss, or, a pop up on the infield.

Men who pretend to be women have a very singular goal of invading women's sport, not for the sake of the sport itself, but for the sake of pretending to be a woman. It doesn't matter what sport, what team, what level or where they are playing. As long as it's for women, that's all that matters to them. When Rhys McKinnon, aka "Veronica Ivy" was kicked out of women's cycling, he switched to golf. When males were banned from women's sports in South Carolina, Brayden "Blaire" Fleming transferred to California. When males were barred from most of the WFA (Women's Football Alliance), all of the men simply switched to a separate league. Graduation certainly doesn't stop them. Declan "Harriette" Mackenzie played four years of "women's" collegiate ball, stealing as many titles as he possibly could and even a national championship title. He's now taken his male advantage to the streets so he can beat up on amateur female players as well, "dominating the paint" and taking a 1st Team All Star award at last year's Dolphin Classic. It remains to be seen if he will participate again on a "women's" team in this years' classic next week.

FIREBALL OVER WASHINGTON STATE MARCH 28th! This marks the 11th fireball event with 100+ observer reports across the USA in the month of March. Many other fireballs have flown in this month as well that have been also similar in brightness, duration, etc but were at really odd hours so weren't seen by too many people. Most of these fireballs are coming from the anti-solar direction and could be debris traveling in advance of other larger fragments or even a BIG ONE. The currently anti-solar direction is exactly towards the trajectory path of Interstellar #3IATLAS during its perihelion in Oct/November exactly along the ecliptic plane in-between the orbits of Earth and Mars.

Much of the anti-Semitism & the free rein that is allowed can be traced back to May 16, 2021. A Muslim convoy drove through Jewish areas St John's Wood, Finchley Road, & near Golders Green. The men from Blackburn, shouted antisemitic abuse, inc threats such as "f*** the Jews, f*** their daughters, & mothers, rape their daughters" & calls to "show your support for Palestine". The CPS did decide to prosecute, but when Asif Ali, 26, Adil Mota, 27, Mohammed Iftikhar Hanif, 28, & Jawaad Hussain, 25, arrived at the Magistrates Court, all of a sudden the charges were dropped. As they had appeared in court, they could not be privately prosecuted. Utter cynicism, utter two-tier justice.

Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." This profound statement reveals the identity of Christ and His role in our lives. In the ancient world, light symbolized knowledge, goodness, and divine revelation. Jesus, as the Light of the world, guides us through the darkness of sin and confusion. When we choose to follow Him, we step out of the shadows and into clarity, purpose, and truth. This choice transforms our identity. No longer are we lost wanderers, but children of light, reflecting. His glory. Christian living calls us to walk in this light daily. It means aligning our actions and decisions with His teachings. It involves seeking His presence through prayer, scripture, and fellowship. As we do this, His light shines through us, impacting those around us and drawing them to Him. In the 21st century, distractions abound. The digital age presents us with endless streams of information, often leading to confusion and a loss of direction. Yet, amidst this noise, Jesus offers a clear path. Following Him doesn't mean life will be devoid of challenges. But it assures us we'll never face them alone or in darkness. Reflect on your spiritual growth. Are you walking in His light? When faced with decisions, do you seek His guidance first? Consider how you can let His light shine through you to bless others. As you reflect, ask yourself: How can I more fully embrace my identity in Christ and allow His light to guide my everyday choices? Seek His wisdom and let His light illuminate your path. Let us pray: Heavenly Father, I come before You with a heart open to embodying the teachings of Your Son, Jesus Christ. As a Catholic priest, I hold the Body of Our Lord Jesus Christ in every Mass. There are always particles on my fingers and sometimes on my hands, but I have the necessary recourse to either the ablution cup or the purification of my fingers and hands after distributing Holy Communion and when purifying the chalice and paten. A question: for people receiving Communion in the hand, what do you do for the particles on your hands or fingers? Those particles are Jesus insofar as they remain true particles of the consecrated Host. As St. Thomas Aquinas explains, the Real Presence remains only as long as the species of bread remain; when the species are so corrupted or reduced that they no longer retain the nature and appearance of bread, the sacramental presence ceases. Nevertheless, even in cases where particles may be so minute that they no longer retain the species and therefore no longer contain the Real Presence, due reverence is still fitting for what was once the Blessed Sacrament and for that which has been consecrated to so sacred a purpose. So again, where do those particles go? (This is an edit to correct my error in stating it is heresy to say micro particles do not retain the real Presence) We know that even the smallest piece of Christ’s Flesh matters, the smallest drop of His Precious Blood. Hence why, in the heartbreaking moment after Mary witnessed her Son be scourged, she proceeded to wipe every drop from the ground. She did not want to leave one drop, one particle, on the floor. What about all the places in which particles of Our Lord’s Body are left unknowingly? It is an honest and important question because we are called to show reverence to the Body of Christ. As a priest, what else am I supposed to be preaching? Is this not a central and valid concern that I raise? If I am attacked and told I said something wrong, I repeat the words of Christ: “Jesus answered him, ‘If I have spoken wrongly, bear witness to the wrong; but if I have spoken rightly, why do you strike me?’” John 18:23. As St. Thomas Aquinas teaches, the Real Presence remains only while the sacramental species remain. (Summa Theologiae, III, q. 77, a. 4.) Yet this truth should never diminish our concern for reverence toward the Sacred Host and the care owed to even the smallest visible particles.

Recently did an interview with the lead developer of Knight's Path on the title's future release and the state of the industry. The Western AAA gaming industry has shifted its focus away from its core audience, favoring products for smaller, less engaged demographics. This shift has led to a noticeable disconnect between large publishers and their traditional fan base. This has, however, created an environment for indies to thrive. They can prioritize authenticity and community, crafting games that resonate with their players and that is exactly the case with Knight's Path. In December of 2023, Knights Path: The Tournament was released to Very Positive reviews on Steam. It is a short medieval RPG featuring challenging combat, an immersive progression system, and a nice little story. It served as an announcement, a combat concept demo, and a teaser for the forthcoming open-world RPG Knight's Path, which is currently in active development. I asked what their plans were regarding the scope of the full release. While you might get the impression that Knight's Path is an arena fighting game, that’s not the case with the full release. "Knight's Path will be a proper open-world, story-driven RPG. Of course, as a small indie team, we’re keeping the scope modest. The open world will be compact but dense, featuring one town, one village, castle ruins, forests, valleys, and other areas to explore." Many gamers would agree it is better to have a limited number of fully fleshed-out areas than to present a gigantic, empty world. This has been a major criticism levied towards recent releases like Pokémon Scarlet and Violet and even modern Assassins Creed, which tends to rely on repetitive gameplay loops scattered across an overly large map, which can feel more like busywork than meaningful exploration. I have always believed that quality over quantity is the best way to go. The team has also made this a priority with things such as the story and weapon types. "We plan to include three main weapon types: longsword, sword and shield, and bows. These will feature the full progression system seen in the demo, with skill levels such as Novice, Adept, Expert, and Master. Players will need to learn individual skills from different trainers to progress. In addition, we’re introducing secondary weapons like spears, halberds, and other polearms. These won’t have RPG-style progression but will still offer variety in combat." Regarding the story, they plan to be bold and strive to create a 16-28 hour-long main campaign. "The story will be divided into four chapters, with each chapter offering around 4–7 hours of gameplay. As in the demo, the player character begins as a nobody, slowly learning how to wield a sword and eventually becoming a knight. However, the progression will be much more realistic than in the demo, where the peasant hilariously transformed into a champion in just four days." This is a far cry from many games that are released nowadays. In just 2024 alone at a glance, the AA release Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn provided an average of 8 hours of content, Princess Peach: Showtime at 10 hours, Silent Hill 2 Remake at 15, and even the GOTY winner Astrobot holds an average playtime of 10 hours. A major issue within the industry is the way we are treated by the people who only have jobs because of our favorite hobby. In 2024 the gaming industry is forecasted to generate $208.7 BILLION dollars, up from 5.4% in 2023. Compare that to Hollywood, which is a measly $12.3 billion. The gaming industry employs 727,000 individuals in the United States alone. So, you'd think these people would have a little bit of respect for gamers, though so many who are vocal on social media show nothing but contempt for us. Perhaps this is because of fear if they do not show loyalty to a cause or "fit in" that they may not secure funding or genuinely believe in what they preach, but the team behind Knight's Path isn't worried about that. "We are independent developers, and we plan to stay independent so we can stay true to our vision. Knight's Path is a game made by gamers for gamers. We’re prioritizing fun gameplay above all, and we firmly believe this is exactly what gamers want." I also raised some questions about their big plans moving forward. In the demo, one of the major criticisms I had was with the voice acting. I had guessed it was done via AI, which was confirmed. "You guessed correctly– the voice acting in the demo was done by AI, and it was probably the loudest critique we received, and we totally understand why! Back then, we didn’t have much of a choice, but for the full game, we don’t plan to use any AI voices. Luckily, after the demo release, many voice actors reached out to us, volunteering to lend their voices to the full game. We absolutely plan to answer their call and give them that opportunity." AI can be a useful tool, especially for developers starting out who can't commit a lot of money to voice acting or just want to see a version of the product that's closer to what they envision the full release to be, but going from that to real voice actors will bump the experience to the next level. I myself played the demo in its entirety and really enjoyed my time with it! I thought the game was reminiscent of Gothic 2 and even The Witcher. I was happily surprised when I didn't encounter any bugs or glitches and while some areas have not been fleshed out like the voice acting, I would recommend putting the game on your wishlist to see what this team does in the future when they finally deliver their updated demo and the eventual full release of the game.

A track like this would allow Melissa to explode in intensity while also dropping huge quantities of rain, yes. But the storm surge in this scenario may be a truly life-threatening factor as well. Notice here that the right-front quadrant of the Hurricane would funnel Caribbean saltwater directly into the bowl-shaped bays of SE Jamaica. The parishes there are some of the highest population centers on the island, so if you have a slow-moving Category 4+ storm take a landfall path like this, it could be a very treacherous situation for low-lying coastal areas.
