OFFICIAL STATEMENT – CHICAGO FLIPS RED December 30,2025 Yesterday, December 29, 2025, two public meetings were scheduled at City Hall: the Budget Committee meeting and the full Chicago City Council meeting. During these meetings, the Democratic-controlled City Council, acting under the direction of Budget Committee Chairman Jason Ervin (28th... Ward), violated the First Amendment rights of Chicago Flips Red members Danielle Carter, Lanetta Thomas, and Jessica Jackson, while also violating the Illinois Open Meetings Act. This conduct is not isolated. For three consecutive years, beginning with Chicago Flips Red Founder Zoe Leigh, the City of Chicago has engaged in a pattern and practice of suppressing protected political speech—specifically when residents speak out against corruption, misuse, and alleged laundering of taxpayer dollars. Rather than address the substance of our concerns, the Johnson administration and City Council have increasingly relied on intimidation tactics, including the use of Chicago Police Department officers and the Sergeant-at-Arms to silence speakers. At recent meetings, 20–30 officers were deployed to remove individuals after they attempted to lawfully exercise their right to speak, often after being improperly denied access to the microphone. This is not public safety. This is government overreach. It resembles the very authoritarianism, discrimination, and racialized suppression that City leadership publicly claims to oppose. The hypocrisy is undeniable. Chicago Flips Red is now preparing to pursue legal action, including a civil rights lawsuit and potential class action, against: • The City of Chicago • The Chicago Police Department • Mayor Brandon Johnson • CPD Superintendent Larry Snelling • Deputy Mayor Garien Gatewood • The Sergeant-at-Arms • Budget Committee Chairman Jason Ervin The Constitution does not stop at the doors of City Hall. Radical spending priorities have pushed Chicago to a $98M budget deficit, and instead of cutting bloated bureaucratic waste, the administration is holding public safety hostage. CFD sources tell us a meeting between CFD negotiators and city officials was set for 10 a.m. this morning at the offices of an attorney representing Chicago. As of this posting, no city official has appeared for the 10 a.m. meeting. Part of a pattern, this is not the first time city officials have shown up late to meetings with Local2. Only yesterday, Mayor Brandon Johnson said he does not take CFD for granted.

Sanctuary City OUT. ICE IN. Defund the CTU. While our children are being used as political pawns during school hours, Chicago families are paying the price for failed leadership and misplaced priorities. Students are not activists. Schools are not organizing hubs. Taxpayers did not consent to their children being pulled into political theater. This is what happens when incompetence is protected, accountability is ignored, and union leadership is driven by radical ideology instead of education outcomes. Anyone continuing to fund or defend this behavior through CTU dues is enabling the problem. Chicago Flips Red will continue to protest the Chicago Teachers Union and apply pressure until federal authorities step in to restore oversight, accountability, and the rule of law. Our kids deserve classrooms — not indoctrination. Our city deserves leadership — not corruption. This does not stop here. 2022–2025: Chicago’s Illegal Alien Shelter Crisis Chicago residents watched something unbelievable happen in real time. At first, illegal aliens were sleeping inside Chicago police districts while the city tried to figure out what to do. Then, quietly, they started moving them into shelters across the city — funded by your tax dollars. No real public meetings. No transparency. No consent from residents. It wasn’t until Chicago residents started showing up to community meetings and City Hall that the truth started coming out. The Democratic leadership running the State of Illinois, Cook County, and the City of Chicago ignored residents — especially those living on the South and West Sides. They were comfortable ignoring us. Why? Because they believed their political machine would stay protected if Kamala Harris won the presidency. Meanwhile, Chicago taxpayers were paying the bill. At the peak, Chicago was spending about $700,000 PER DAY to operate illegal alien shelters. And many of them were placed directly inside neighborhoods. Some of the Shelter Locations • 2241 S. Halsted St. – Pilsen Large warehouse converted into a shelter. A migrant child tragically died at this location. • 1310 N. Elston Ave. – West Town Shelter primarily used for single adults. • 4900 S. DuSable Lake Shore Dr. – South Side State-run facility. With the help of Chicago Flips Red, Illinois Comptroller candidate Bryan Drew, and residents from the Newport community, the city and state eventually shut this location down — although activity is still reported around the site. • 7353 S. 2022–2025: Chicago’s Illegal Alien Shelter Crisis Chicago residents watched something unbelievable happen in real time. At first, illegal aliens were sleeping inside Chicago police districts while the city tried to figure out what to do. Then, quietly, they started moving them into shelters across the city — funded by your tax dollars. No real public meetings. No transparency. No consent from residents. It wasn’t until Chicago residents started showing up to community meetings and City Hall that the truth started coming out. The Democratic leadership running the State of Illinois, Cook County, and the City of Chicago ignored residents — especially those living on the South and West Sides. They were comfortable ignoring us. Why? Because they believed their political machine would stay protected if Kamala Harris won the presidency. Meanwhile, Chicago taxpayers were paying the bill. At the peak, Chicago was spending about $700,000 PER DAY to operate illegal alien shelters. And many of them were placed directly inside neighborhoods. Some of the Shelter Locations • 2241 S. Halsted St. – Pilsen Large warehouse converted into a shelter. A migrant child tragically died at this location. • 1310 N. Elston Ave. – West Town Shelter primarily used for single adults. • 4900 S. DuSable Lake Shore Dr. – South Side State-run facility. WATCH: Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker comes out strongly today against Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson’s “head tax” proposal. “I am absolutely foursquare opposed to a head tax for the city of Chicago. It penalizes the very thing that we want, which is more employment in the city of Chicago. It makes it very hard to attract companies from outside the city to come in and harder for companies already here to stay.” Pritzker also said Johnson needs to work harder to find efficiencies in the city budget, rather than threatening the economic growth of the city and state with a new tax on jobs. “Balancing the budget for the state of Illinois and for the city of Chicago is vital. It can’t be ignored, it has to be done, but it shouldn’t be done with a head tax in the city of Chicago… “I am confident the city can do it. Look, you’ve got to start with efficiencies. You’ve got to go into city government—and I haven’t seen any of that in this budget so far. That’s going to have to happen because there are going to be changes. People are not going to like certain kinds of revenue enhancements that he’s got in his budget. So you’ve got to find efficiencies, and there are efficiencies to be found—some with technology, some because we have departments doing things that maybe we don’t need done. And finally, how about we do our best to attract, retain, and grow businesses in the city of Chicago, because that, again, is the best way for us to pay the bills.” Under Johnson’s proposal all companies employing 100+ people in Chicago would have to pay a tax of $21 per employee per month. As Pritzker correctly points out, it’s a punishment for creating jobs.
