This morning was the first time I saw snow in Ukraine and it was so beautiful. I still can’t believe this country is being bombed every single day. It’s the most beautiful and motivated and driven county I’ve been set foot in and I can’t wait to celebrate Christmas here. New paper from Apple - Sharp Monocular View Synthesis in Less than a Second Mescheder et al. @ Apple just released a very impressive paper (congrats! 🎉🥳). You give it an image and it generates a really great looking 3d Gaussian representation. Uses depth pro. It's really good. The model is about 3GB, and takes ~5-10s on my M1 Max per image. Single feedforward pass network. The video is using "Metal Splatter" to view the .ply from ml-sharp on Apple Vision Pro. Some really wow moments today trying it on different scenes.

What are the odds of coming from a place like this and still making it in life? I’ve given millions of dollars to charity, but every time I leave a community like this, I realize that I still have so much more to do. Giving is important, but creating lasting change is even greater. Which is why I created a jobs in the state that impacted hundreds of people lives on a daily basis. Seeing the reality that so many people face reminds me that my purpose goes beyond personal success. I have a responsibility to do more, reach more people, create more opportunities, and make a greater impact on the lives of others. Success means more when you use it to help someone else rise.

The goal of our hike the other day was to climb to the summit of Mt. Judah at Donner Pass. We tried a few years ago, but there was still snow on the trail, and we couldn't finish. This year the snow is all gone, and we actually made it to the top. It was really warm, and when that sun hits you on the open slopes, it's hot! Notice how steep the terrain is. There is one section where you walk on a single track, and to your left is a very steep drop. I had to keep my eyes on Monica and not look down. I didn't film that part. It's a bit vertigo-inducing. I was huffing and puffing, but we made it. Coordinates: 39°17'54.88"N 120°18'56.69"W

Let me take you back in time to our one and only white Christmas on record. On this day in 1989, a snowstorm was raging across the eastern Carolinas, and it didn't stop until Christmas Eve. When it was all said and done, more than a foot of snow had fallen in Myrtle Beach and along the Grand Strand, and most of it was still on the ground on Christmas morning. People were skiing on the beaches! I was 23 years old living on Marine Corps Air Station - New River in Jacksonville, NC and was in heaven with near blizzard conditions and 17" at my house. BEST CHRISTMAS EVER!

In 1994, the first 32-bit next-generation console appeared, and it was the 3DO. What surprised me the most was that Super Street Fighter II X, which was hugely popular in arcades at the time, was available on this system. I still remember standing in a game shop, completely mesmerized, staring at that game for a long time. I was really hoping it would come out on the Super Famicom too, but maybe because of hardware limitations, it never did. That made it even more shocking. By the way, the model I’m talking about is the 3DO ALIVE 2 made by LG Electronics. For a lot of foreign friends, this is probably something they’ve never seen before.

This is the most meaningful announcement I have been part of in the Base ecosystem, a journey I have been on since day one.
