O-Line Snag Drill - The snag drill requires offensive linemen, defenders with dummies, and a partner who grabs and snags the offensive lineman's ankle. - Snagging the ankle reinforces the need for the offensive lineman to drive their knee and leg forward with power when taking a step. - Coaches should emphasize the importance of the second step and ensure players are driving it directly up the crotch of the defender. - Effective movement during the drill involves maintaining low pad level, achieving a strong thumb lift with the inside arm, and driving up the board. - Ankle flexibility is critical and is defined as having all cleats in the ground while being able to position the kneecap directly over the toe. - Offensive linemen must avoid taking a first step that is too large, as it prevents proper knee-over-toe positioning; instead, they should take a short step, often around six inches. O-Line Covered Step Drill - This offensive line drill utilizes the lines on a turf field or painted boxes to simulate old-school board drills. - To maximize individual time, coaches can line up multiple players along every five-yard line to get a high volume of repetitions in a short period. - The first movement, or the power step, is a short step used to transfer weight from the backside big toe to the lead leg to create power. - On the coach's second command, players execute the drive step, which provides the actual movement and force of the block. - Players must ensure their second step lands in front of their first step, driving that foot up the crotch of the defender and upfield. - While players in the drill may fall forward without resistance, in a game scenario, this momentum is used to strike the defender in a proper fit. D-Line Press to Scoop Drill - The press to scoop drill is designed for defensive linemen to handle situations where they encounter a double team combo or a zone block. - When positioned on the backside of a play, the player must work to press the scoop as flat as possible against the line of scrimmage. - It is critical to get hands on the offensive player to prevent them from getting a free release to the second level of the defense. - Players are coached to keep their inside arm long, strong, and fully locked out while adjusting their position during the play. - To maintain power and leverage, the defensive lineman should work to get their inside leg up, utilizing a same hand and same foot technique. - If two blockers remain on the defensive lineman, another defender is free; once one blocker leaves, the lineman must be prepared to come off the block and make the play. WR Rocker Step Drill - The rocker step is an everyday drill used by wide receivers to manipulate a defensive back's body positioning and movement. - This technique is designed to make a defender lean or stop their feet by simulating a break while the receiver is actually running at full speed. - Coaches should emphasize body control and movement manipulation, comparing the technique to a crossover move used by a basketball player. - Effective execution requires the receiver to move their shoulders and maintain total control over their body while selling a vertical route. - The drill begins with receivers coming off the line of scrimmage, running vertically for five yards while staying under control. - After mastering the initial vertical movement, the drill graduates to include the actual break in a specific direction to simulate game-speed routes of ten or more yards. Cowboys O-Line Drill - Proper stance is achieved by keeping the feet positioned directly underneath the framework of the body and the armpits. - Placing the hand so it straddles the line is a key component of an effective initial setup. - A player should load the left instep to generate the power necessary to gain ground with the right step. - The initial movement involves a quick pick-up and put-down of the feet to maintain balance and momentum. - On the second step, the backside knee should be directed to split the crotch of the defender. - Sustained movement is created by pounding the arches and driving through the insteps to run off the football. O-Line Strain Drill - The strain drill begins with the offensive lineman in a proper fit position with elbows bent. - All drills should start with the offensive lineman's feet on fire rather than from a static position. - On the ready command, the player's feet must move, and on the go command, the hips should be the first thing to activate the drive movement. - During the drill, the defensive player maintains outside leverage on the shoulder pads and attempts to pull the lineman off the line. - Offensive linemen must focus on maintaining fast feet, staying square, and keeping a strong position with their elbows squeezed. - This drill is designed to train players for the finish phase of blocking a defensive lineman or for second-level strikes on linebackers. D-Line Drive Sled Drill - The drive sled drill is designed to develop muscle memory in defensive linemen so they understand the necessity of continuing to drive their feet upon making contact with an opponent. - Players must demonstrate explosive movement by coming out of their hips and shooting their hands directly from the ground to the man to initiate contact. - It is critical for the player to maintain a wide base throughout the duration of the drill while driving the sled. - Coaches should ensure that a player's feet never get too close together during the drive, as keeping them spread allows the athlete to maintain power. - Maintaining full arm extension while driving is a key technical component for defensive linemen to master during this exercise. - The drill concludes, and the player releases from the sled only when the coach blows the whistle. LB Pass Rush Drill - Coaches should teach pass rush techniques to linebackers using the same methods applied to defensive linemen. - The drill focuses on linebackers facing a blocker, such as an offensive lineman or a running back, who initiates contact by shooting their hands. - A key component of the technique is a violent pin of the blocker's elbow combined with a rip move. - As soon as the linebacker's hips clear the blocker, they must point their foot back toward the quarterback. - Players should aim to have their entire body tilted and pointed toward the quarterback after executing the move. - The final phase of the drill requires the linebacker to sprint off the block toward their target. D-Line Agile Pad Get-off Drill - They utilize an agile bag drill to practice the defensive line's get-off. - The agile bag is placed right up against the drive leg of the D-Linemen. - The goal is to literally launch off the drive leg to gain ground and get over the agile bag. - The defensive lineman should get their drive leg up against the bag and go off on movement. - You want to see the player jump, leave the ground, and get full extension off that drive leg. - The player should gain ground with a 45-degree shin angle. - The technique involves closing space and gaining ground; the player should avoid being "choppy". - The drill can be a competitive race, or the players can simply focus on getting off. - One variation of the drill involves players racing, where the first one to touch the coach's hands wins, going off on movement. Here’s a Nebraska offensive line drill we use at least once a week. The covered man starts by driving the sled, then comes off to fit and finish on the linebacker. The coaching emphasis is simple: Create movement on the first level. Don’t leave the down lineman too early. Come off the sled under control. Square up and fit the linebacker instead of chasing him.

WR Posture Drill - The primary objective of the posture drill is to train players on every type of break by focusing on violent hip movement and gaining total control - Coaches should prioritize technique and control over having players stop exactly on a yard line - Executing a violent first step into the ground is critical for maintaining posture and effectively initiating the break - The drill progresses from a stationary start to moving between lines, allowing coaches to regulate speed and emphasize proper mechanics - To save the players' legs while focusing on technique, keep the drill distance to approximately five or six yards - Players must continue coming back toward the ball until it is in their hands to ensure they beat defenders to the reception point Jelani Berassa, WR Coach, Florida International Joshua Benjamin #GlazierClinics

Swipe the Ankles Drill - The drill begins on a whistle, where coaches slowly drag bags away to simulate a runner. - Defenders start the drill on all fours and crawl toward the moving bags. - The primary goal of the drill is to simulate a defender's last line of defense by swiping the runner's ankle to bring them down. - Players are instructed to cup the ankle during the tackle attempt rather than using a closed fist or an open hand. - The technique emphasizes having something solid to grab onto as the runner moves away. - This specific movement is designed to train defenders on how to effectively make a tackle when they are trailing a play. LB Run Fits Drill The video outlines a linebacker drill designed to help players adjust their run fits based on the movement of defensive linemen. Key learning points include: - Dynamic Gap Fitting: Linebackers must be prepared to "make it right" rather than just fitting a pre-assigned gap if the defensive front is compromised. - Drill Setup: The drill utilizes a defensive lineman (represented by a coach with a bag) and a running back to simulate real-game scenarios. - Reacting to Defensive Line Movement: The linebacker must observe where the defensive lineman's head goes, such as a 3-technique getting knocked into an A-gap or a 2-eye getting reached or pushed into a B-gap. - Responding to Ball Carrier Cuts: Linebackers must mirror the running back’s cut and then "thud" him up to finish the tackle. - Redirecting and Filling: Players must practice redirecting their momentum; for example, if a linebacker expects to fill the B-gap but finds it occupied by a teammate, they must quickly jump cut or redirect to fill the new open gap. - Downhill Aggression: The goal of the drill is to train linebackers to see the opening and get downhill quickly to fill the vacant gap. O-Line Blunt Drill - Drill Purpose and Utility: This drill is designed to simulate backside gap schemes and can be performed with minimal equipment or defenders. - Gap Responsibility and Squeezing: Players, specifically the tackle, must secure the B gap by squeezing down and holding their spot as the guard pulls. - The Blunt Technique: Rather than a traditional step hinge, the "blunt" involves squeezing down and then reacting to a defender's movement to engage. - Hand Usage and Anchoring: When engaging a defender, players should use a two-handed punch, similar to techniques used in drop-back pass protection, to anchor down and be firm with the blunt. - Reaction to Fold Blocks: The drill also addresses fold blocks against 3-4 fronts, where the center must feel the fold, pop up, and be violent when engaging the defender. LB Box Tackle Drill - This drill is designed to practice attacking a ball carrier from an angle rather than focusing on a heavy Oklahoma-style collision. - Coaches should emphasize "taking the air away" by closing the space between the defender and the ball carrier. - During the tackle, the defender should aim to take a leg from the ball carrier to bring them down. - Footwork variety is important, and coaches can have players start the drill by either shuffling or using a crossover run. - At the point of contact, defenders must maintain "same foot, same shoulder" positioning to ensure a solid tackle. - For high-quality contact, the defender should be close enough to literally step on the ball carrier's toe. LB Search & Destroy Drill - The search and destroy drill is highly effective for linebackers when actions inside the box are cloudy or unclear. - Coaches can choose to have players either shuffle or use a crossover step to move from their starting point to the cone. - A primary emphasis of the drill is to ensure the linebacker keeps their shoulders, hips, and feet square once they reach the cone. - Linebackers must avoid crossing over their feet when making contact with the ball carrier. - The drill should be executed at a thud tempo during the teaching phase so both the linebacker and the ball carrier can feel the movement, with the ball carrier waiting to make a decision until the linebacker reaches the cone. - The drill is excellent for young linebackers to learn how to match the path of the running back and track where he is going, rather than just running blindly through gaps.
