Oliver Stone was interviewing MK Benjamin Netanyahu in March 2002 when a bomb went off. A priceless exchange followed. Stone looked out toward the explosion: “What’s up there? He had bought into the idea that the conflict was fundamentally about “settlements.” At that exact moment, the Palestinian Authority’s own terror arm — the Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades (Fatah) — sent a 17-year-old girl, Ayat al-Akhras, to blow herself up at a supermarket in Jerusalem. She murdered two Israeli civilians and wounded 28 others. This was everyday life for Israelis during the Second Intifada — the same “intifada” so many activists today want to “globalize.” Netanyahu, then a senior Likud MK under Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, cut through the illusion in real time. To the Palestinian movement, every inch of Israel is a “settlement.” The problem was never 1967. It was always 1948 — and the very existence of a Jewish state in any part of the Land. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has vowed to build an illegal “Jewish Israeli state” in the occupied West Bank, responding to European efforts to recognize Palestinian statehood ahead of a major UN summit in June. “They will recognize a Palestinian state on paper — and we will build the Jewish-Israeli state on the ground. Burned synagogues. Fired rockets at Israeli civilians almost immediately. Then: 2006 — Palestinians elected Hamas. 2007 — Hamas butchered Fatah and seized total control of Gaza. Result: Hundreds of miles of terror tunnels, tens of thousands of rockets fired at Israeli civilians, and October 7. They never wanted a state next to Israel. They want all of the Land without Jews.

On Tuesday, representatives of 🇵🇸14 Palestinian factions, including Fatah and Hamas, pledged to end their divisions and strengthen Palestinian unity by signing the Beijing Declaration. The announcement was made after a three-day reconciliation dialogue from July 21 to 23 in Beijing following China's invitation to intra-Palestinian reconciliation talks. At the closing ceremony of the dialogue, Fatah voiced its appreciation for China, saying China's support for Palestine has never stopped and has been increasing in recent years. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi also attended the closing ceremony. This is the first time since the outbreak of the latest Palestinian-Israeli conflict that the Palestinian factions have reached a reconciliation agreement. The joint statement is of great positive significance to the realization of unity and reconciliation among the Palestinian and Israeli factions.
