This was everyday life for Israelis during the Second Intifada — the same “intifada” so many activists today want to “globalize.” Netanyahu, then a senior Likud MK under Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, cut through the illusion in real time. Palestinians saw Israel’s complete withdrawal as proof that terrorism works — and vowed to keep fighting until the entire Land, from the river to the sea including Jerusalem, was free of Jews just like Gaza now was. Every Jew, soldier, and “settlement” was gone by Sept 12 — for the first time in history, Palestinians held total control over any territory. The Palestinian response: Looted greenhouses.
