On 2nd Dec 1999, devolution powers were given back to NI, 25 years on, is this what we envisaged? The cycles of collapse, the grinding down of people, the cynical approach to governing- reform of the institutions is absolutely necessary if we are ever to achieve systems that deliver...

@allianceparty It'll only be 25 yrs once, so I'll shamelessly butt in here to advocate folk revisiting the early devolution times through my book (see the @AlexKane221b column). I actually think that for the first 3 years or so, we got close to what we had envisaged.

@allianceparty It's not just reform of the institutions that is needed. It is a proper funding model for the NI Executive. The sewage network in Northern Ireland has been pumping raw sewage in to lakes, loughs and rivers since the 70's, and it is only increasing.

@allianceparty His response “it’s a really, really fair question to ask” should have concluded with “I don’t know” 🤷‍♂️

@allianceparty Good old whinging @SorchaEastwood . Typical ceasefire baby hasn't got a clue and thinks shouting will get her what she wants. Should've stayed at home and minded the kids. It would mean less disruption for others who actually are capable of doing the job

REPORT | Italy’s PM Giorgia Meloni has lashed out at the humanitarian flotilla seeking to break Israel’s illegal siege of Gaza. Condemnation of the Drone Attack ➤ “My condemnation of what happened last night is total.” ➤ “We are carrying out our investigations to establish responsibility with certainty.” Italian Naval Response ➤ “As you saw, [Defense] Minister Crosetto authorized the Navy ship Fasana to approach, in order to guarantee, if necessary, rescue and assistance to people who might be in danger – even though the use of military force is not foreseen.” Criticism of the Flotilla ➤ “I want to repeat what I think of this affair, because all of this is gratuitous, dangerous, irresponsible.” ➤ “There is no need to risk your own safety. There is no need to throw yourself into a war theater to deliver aid to Gaza that the Italian government and the competent authorities could have delivered within a few hours.” ➤ “I think there must also be a call for responsibility – particularly when we are talking about members of the Italian parliament. I remind everyone: members of parliament are paid to work in the institutions, not to force the institutions to work for them.” Alternative Proposals ➤ “If the issue is aid, aid can be delivered safely. We have offered all our availability for aid to be delivered safely.” ➤ “The Israeli government made a proposal – if the issue is aid – to deliver the aid to the port of Ashkelon. The answer [from the GSF organizers] was no.” ➤ “Now Minister Tajani is working on another mediation proposal: to deliver the aid to Cyprus, to the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem, which would take responsibility for delivering it. This proposal seems to have the consent of the Cypriot government, the Israeli government, and obviously the Italian government. We are waiting for a response from the flotilla.” On Motives ➤ “Let’s be honest: these initiatives do not seem mainly intended to deliver aid, but rather to create problems for the government.” ➤ “If this proposal is not accepted, then what is the alternative? To try to break Israel’s naval blockade. And then what is the Italian government supposed to do? Send out our Navy and declare war on Israel? It seems to me things are being exaggerated.” Appeal to Participants ➤ “So I appeal to everyone’s sense of responsibility – also to the political parties with their MPs on board [the flotilla]. Right now, we need to defend people’s safety and help the institutions of the Italian Republic find solutions. We are working on those solutions, and we are available so that no further risks are run. My appeal is for responsibility.” Unions Calling For General Nationwide Strike ➤ “What happens in Italy in these cases does not have the objective of alleviating the suffering of the people of Gaza. The objective is to attack the Italian government.” ➤ “So the point is: to paralyze Italy, to provoke further episodes of violence, to create a very complex public order situation. This will not bring any result for the people of Gaza. Does anyone think Hamas will release the hostages because USB Sindacato calls a strike? Let’s be serious.” ➤ “It seems objectively irresponsible to exploit the suffering of the Palestinian people in order to attack the Italian government.” Italian Government’s Work ➤ “We will continue to do our serious work to resolve the issue of Gaza with our partners. This is work we do daily, even without necessarily declaring it publicly or waving flags about it.” ➤ “If the Israeli government has made proposals, it is also thanks to our diplomatic activity, because we carried out this work.” ➤ “But it’s important to clarify intentions: if the aim is to deliver aid to Gaza, we are trying to find solutions. If, as I have already said, the aim is to break a naval blockade in a war zone, that leads to other choices. And on that, I want very clear answers from the opposition.” ➤ “We are not playing games here. We are talking about a war.

VP VANCE PREDICTED: PEOPLE ARE GOING TO GET ANGRY, AND RIGHTFULLY SO "This stuff we can and we should prosecute, and I'm just telling you, this is going to be a real problem, and the people are going to get really pissed at Senate Republicans if we don't have the U.S. attorneys on the ground to actually achieve justice. People are going to get angry, and rightfully so." If you want justice, you've got to empower the President of the United States to actually appoint the officers of justice all over the country. The Democrats are stalling that, and we're going to wake up in a couple of years, if we don't have more U.S. attorneys approved, if we don't have more judges approved, we're going to wake up in a couple of years and realize that we've done a lot of great work at the Trump administration, but justice is not being meted out as it should be because we don't have the people on the ground. That is a big problem, and I know that's somewhat unrelated to Arctic Frost, but it actually is related to Arctic Frost, because you cannot get the justice for the people who are targeted by the Biden administration unless we've got good people, especially in these U.S. attorneys offices, and that's something we've got to pay attention to over the next year. Spying on President Trump, prosecuting him, investigating senators, congressmen, and congressmen who are just aligned with the President of the United States some of this stuff is going to get covered by statute of limitations, but some of this stuff we can and we should prosecute, and I'm just telling you, this is going to be a real problem, and the people who watch your show are going to get really pissed at Senate Republicans, excuse my language, if we don't have the U.S. attorneys on the ground to actually achieve justice, people are going to get angry, and rightfully so.
