I taught constitutional law at West Point before serving overseas twice. Article I isn’t complicated: the authority to take this country to war belongs to Congress. No one should mourn the Iranian regime. But whether a regime is brutal is not the constitutional test for war. Eight months ago, the United States decimated Iran’s nuclear capabilities. There is no clear imminent threat to American lives that would traditionally justify a unilateral strike. Supporting our troops and insisting on following the Constitution are not contradictory. They are the same responsibility we all have as Americans. 🇺🇸
