Everyone needs to take a beat and understand who McCain was & what he stood for. You might not agree with all of his politics. He was an original, the last of his generation to put country and people above BS when it mattered. The GOP has drifted into a cult without him.

Obama: John McCain. I don't want to over romanticize our relationship. John was conservative to put it mildly. He ran against me in 2008 and talked about me on the campaign trail. You know what, he understood that some values transcend party. He believed an honest argument and hearing the views of other people. He didn't demonize political opponents. Do you remember at the end of the campaign when a woman at one of his rallies said, you can't vote for that Arab, he's not even a citizen and he said hold on, I have had a lot of disagreements with Senator Obama but I served with him, he is a good man and an honorable man and a patriotic American, shut it down. He knew that if we get in the habit of bending the truth to suit political expediency or party orthodoxy, democracy can't work. The man had character.
