This film, and every last performance in it, is a miracle. Paul Thomas Anderson saw the crazy expectations hanging over his head & crushed them to pieces. This is a masterpiece & if you disagree, I can’t save you.

Paul Thomas Anderson was my most watched director in 2025 according to Letterboxd. Out of the 242 films I reviewed in ‘25, six of them were directed by PTA. That includes The Master, which is one of the best films of the 21st Century, let alone PTA’s career.

On the 7th anniversary of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, I still think this is Leonardo DiCaprio’s best performance. He lost the Oscar to Joaquin Phoenix for Joker & it’s a decision that’s aged horribly by the Academy. DiCaprio’s comedic range in this film changed my expectations of Leo as an actor. He reached another level with this film, which also happens to be Tarantino’s best.

I could watch One Battle After Another every day. I really think this is a masterpiece & between the writing, acting, and (most of all), the filmmaking, I see almost no flaws with this film. Sean Penn won a 3rd Oscar for this and Leonardo DiCaprio should’ve won a 2nd. I’ll never forget seeing this in a sold out theater.

Inception still ranks as one of the best in-theater experiences of my life. Catching this film on the biggest IMAX screen you can find is mandatory for any Nolan fan. I also pray we get another Nolan-DiCaprio collab at some point.

Godzilla Minus One exploded onto the scene in December of 2023 & immediately became one of the year’s best films. Minus One was not on my radar entering ‘23 but I’m proud to say I saw this twice in films in theaters. The effects were utterly stunning. This film blew me away.

Best in Show is one of the first “mockumentaries” I can ever remember seeing. Catherine O’Hara couldn’t be funnier in this film. It’s not possible. This entire cast is amazing & this film is a throwback to the early ‘00s. I’m really going to miss O’Hara. We lost a giant.

The Place Beyond the Pines. The first hour of this film - in which married couple Ryan Gosling & Eva Mendes share the screen - is one of the best hours of Cinema I can ever remember experiencing in a theater. So emotional. So visceral. None of which is to suggest the back hour and a half of this film isn’t good, it definitely is & that’s thanks to Bradley Cooper, but the back of this film doesn’t approach the first half. This film’s first hour still gives me goosebumps.
