One Battle After Another is approaching its one year anniversary & I’m getting nostalgic. One of the best memories of running this account was seeing this film in a sold out IMAX theater & running home to write about it. Winner of six Academy Awards, I still remember how high my expectations were going into a film directed by Paul Thomas Anderson & featuring Leonardo DiCaprio. Leo & PTA took my high expectations and snapped them in half. Not in my wildest dreams did I imagine a film this unforgettable. Simply one of the best films of the century.

Killers of the Flower Moon is one of a handful of films that I call “litmus test movies”: if you don’t see why this is a spectacular film, I sort of question your overall judgment in film. Call me reductive- it’s just how I feel. This is a masterpiece from Scorsese & DiCaprio should’ve received an Oscar nomination at a minimum.

I honestly didn’t know this just came out.. you? Leonardo DiCaprio and Sean Penn, suspected CIA Assets, had a new film out that Foreshadows a Future of Violent Clashes with ICE and an “Immigrant Liberation” Nationwide The film, One Battle After Another, follows DiCaprio, a former explosives expert in the militant group French 75 (Antifa?).. The film opens with the group raiding an ICE detention center to free “detained immigrants” who are brutally beating and mistreated and government agents are shown executing unarmed suspects. While the revolutionaries fight back with weapons and explosives, this sets off a larger story of Bob trying to rescue his kidnapped daughter from a white nationalist military officer (Sean Penn).

The Invite is officially available on demand today & I couldn’t be happier. I’ve been telling every friend of mine to see this movie & I hope more people I know get a chance to see this now, even though catching this in a packed theater was just an unforgettable experience. I expect this film, which I have ranked as the 2nd best film of 2026 so far, to compete for the Oscar for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay and multiple acting nominations. Please see this film, it’s amazing.

Michael Mann’s Blackhat is probably his most misunderstood film. I really enjoy this- I think the quality of production & filmmaking is high. I also think Chris Hemsworth gives a strong leading-man performance here. The story has its flaws, but the film overall is good.

Eddington is a misunderstood achievement that was ahead of its time. I think this is the best performance from Joaquin Phoenix since he won an Oscar in 2020 & I think every last actor in this film, including Pedro Pascal, is excellent. Ari Aster is about as divisive of a director as there is on this here app, and while I don’t always jive with his work, I think this film is incredibly intelligent & a great commentary on our post-COVID lives.

In Bruges deserves to be called a masterpiece- it’s a near perfect film but despite that, this only earned one Oscar nomination, and that was Martin McDonagh’s nomination for Best Original Screenplay. I think multiple actors should’ve been nominated & this should’ve been nominated for Best Picture. It just speaks to the fact that this film was ahead of its time.
