A sinister detail in the Maria ending, James doesn't read Mary's letter, he just disregards of it and puts it in his pocket. This is why Mary doesn't recite her letter in this ending, unlike in OG SH2. The inventory's background shows the moment James kills Mary from the OG SH2 (see end of the video). At first it's slow and blurry because James is getting flashbacks but he's in denial, and it becomes clearer and faster after the Pyramid Heads fight, when he accepts the truth.
