The eye of Fung-wong (UwanPH) is really starting to melt through the icy shell of her CDO now. New, towering thunderstorms are rising up within the inner eyewall as well. On microwave imagery, the Typhoon’s cumbersome core structure is still yet to fully solidify. What we could see in the coming hours, especially after the Pacific sun evanesces below the horizon, is for this new burst of core thunderstorms to freeze the eyewall into a more complete and circular ring around the eye. That would likely jumpstart a true phase of rapid intensification right as Fung-wong enters her final approach to Luzon in the Philippines.

No, your eyes are not deceiving you! Next week's cold blast is going to be “near” historic in #Florida for early November. The models are very aggressive and if they are right we may tie or break records set ~100 years ago. These are wind chills for Tuesday morning BUT it is not out of the question that North FL will see actual low temps near freezing next Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. Fire up the fireplaces! You don't have one? You have a week to get it :)

‼️I don't think people are grasping how MISERABLE this Winter Storm will be. This Winter Storm will be NOTHING like last week’s storm❌ 🥶 Portions of the Carolinas will turn into SIBERIA on Saturday, as Hurricane Force Wind gusts and close to a FOOT of Snow fall at the same time. 🌀 Our Storm is what’s called a BOMB CYCLONE, meaning it is a rapidly strengthening Low Pressure System. 💨 Instead of a calm, steady Snow, conditions will be ABSOLUTELY BRUTAL inside the core of the storm as Blizzard like Snow and Wind WHIP around. 🌡️ On top of that, Temperatures will be Frigid, with Wind Chills close to 0. I’ll have another update later tonight, but right now this is looking like a BIG ONE for our Carolina brotheren. More to come my brotheren. 👊❄️

Super Typhoon #Mawar will almost certainly strike #Guam in the coming hours. Latest satellite shows the eye reducing as Mawar undergoes an eyewall replacement cycle. Winds will remain intense however, at around a category 5 strength of 155-160 mph.

Powering our very unusual pattern - with early season Gulf cold fronts and strong wind shear - is an extremely amplified jet stream for September. It has thrown the whole Northern Hemisphere weather off-kilter. That means cool-dry weather this weekend for North-Central Florida about a month early! It also means hurricane killing wind shear across the Atlantic Basin! Here's the science: Warm air is being forced all the way up to the Arctic circle by an elongated jet stream. That will cause an "Omega block" to form this weekend over Central Canada - you can see the Greek Omega shape with cold air on either side. These "blocking" patterns are very tough to dislodge. Because what goes up, must come down, cool air is being forced south along the Eastern Sea Board bringing Faux Fall to Florida. Faux or not, we will take it! WFLA NEWS

Ultimately, this feature in #Melissa ended up evolving in a peculiar matter based on land-based radar from Jamaica, where the inner eyewall appears to have essentially 'merged' with the outer. The product is a slightly larger and apparently more intense eye than we had before.

BC, here’s the next update on the unusual bomb cyclone situation, on Nov 19th. (Scroll for wind forecast) The low pressure system - which is currently roughly 3,200 km SSW of Vancouver island - will race southeast over the pacific during the next 36 hours, while growing rapidly. But the weather system truly becomes problematic as it turns northeast Tuesday morning, where it will completely devour the low in the gulf of Alaska. The storm will explode in intensity, and as pressures plummet near the centre of the storm, winds will explode to numbers more typically seen in tropical cyclones. At this point the storm will be a major bomb cyclone, and will obtain peak intensity by late afternoon or early evening, roughly 400 km west of Vancouver Island. Peak intensify: • Max wind gusts: 185km/h • Min pressure: 944mb Yet the low casts uncertainty over parts of the BC south coast. Northern and western Vancouver island are likely to be impacted with very high southeasterly winds, but southern and eastern sections lay in a zone filled with possibilities. Despite that, I have gathered together the latest data, to create this forecast ⬇️ • Western Vancouver Island: Peak wind gusts 80 to 110km/h, except up to 140km/h near Brooks peninsula provincial park. Timeframe: Tuesday afternoon, through Wednesday. • Northern Vancouver Island: Peak wind gusts of 90 to 120km/h. Timeframe: Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday night. • Eastern Vancouver Island: Peak gusts of 70 to 100km/h. Timeframe: Tuesday evening, again gusting up to 90km/h near Comox on Wednesday. • Southern Vancouver Island: Peak gusts of 70 to 100km/h Tuesday evening, highest winds over western sections. Timeframe: Tuesday evening, with winds reaching-strengthening early Wednesday near the Haro Strait. • Sunshine Coast - Sechelt to Powell River: Peak gusts ranging 70 to 100km/h. That red section on the top map is where the National Hurricane Center says the risk of destructive hurricane force winds (74+ mph) will be. The pink on the bottom map shows the areas that will see "significant risk of life-threatening flash and urban flooding" from Wednesday into Thursday. Hurricane Milton is a powerful, dangerous storm. I don't specifically recall EVER seeing the eyewall features of any tropical cyclone appearing to be *flashing* like a strobe light like this! The speed of rotation within the eyewall is so fast that each time the satellite image updates, each eyewall feature is in a totally different place, and this gives us the strobe light effect. This is truly awe-inspiring to witness. This is pushing the physical limits of how strong a storm can possibly get on the face of this planet.
