📢 OneCanvas: 3D Scene Understanding via Panoramic Reprojection We extract features from video frames and reproject them into one occlusion-free view of the whole scene that a 2D VLM reads just like a normal image. We can center this view on any viewpoint, including an agent's own pose for... situated reasoning. The same projection lets us create spatial training tasks with no human annotation, solvable only by reasoning over the 3D positions of real object features placed on an otherwise empty canvas. LLaVA-3D A Simple yet Effective Pathway to Empowering LMMs with 3D-awareness Recent advancements in Large Multimodal Models (LMMs) have greatly enhanced their proficiency in 2D visual understanding tasks, enabling them to effectively process and understand images and videos. However, the development of LMMs with 3D-awareness for 3D scene understanding has been hindered by the lack of large-scale 3D vision-language datasets and powerful 3D encoders. In this paper, we introduce a simple yet effective framework called LLaVA-3D. Leveraging the strong 2D understanding priors from LLaVA, our LLaVA-3D efficiently adapts LLaVA for 3D scene understanding without compromising 2D understanding capabilities. To achieve this, we employ a simple yet effective representation, 3D Patch, which connects 2D CLIP patch features with their corresponding positions in 3D space. By integrating the 3D Patches into 2D LMMs and employing joint 2D and 3D vision-language instruction tuning, we establish a unified architecture for both 2D image understanding and 3D scene understanding. Experimental results show that LLaVA-3D converges 3.5x faster than existing 3D LMMs when trained on 3D vision-language datasets. Moreover, LLaVA-3D not only achieves state-of-the-art performance across various 3D tasks but also maintains comparable 2D image understanding and vision-language conversation capabilities with LLaVA.

3D-LLM: Injecting the 3D World into Large Language Models paper page: Large language models (LLMs) and Vision-Language Models (VLMs) have been proven to excel at multiple tasks, such as commonsense reasoning. Powerful as these models can be, they are not grounded in the 3D physical world, which involves richer concepts such as spatial relationships, affordances, physics, layout, and so on. In this work, we propose to inject the 3D world into large language models and introduce a whole new family of 3D-LLMs. Specifically, 3D-LLMs can take 3D point clouds and their features as input and perform a diverse set of 3D-related tasks, including captioning, dense captioning, 3D question answering, task decomposition, 3D grounding, 3D-assisted dialog, navigation, and so on. Using three types of prompting mechanisms that we design, we are able to collect over 300k 3D-language data covering these tasks. To efficiently train 3D-LLMs, we first utilize a 3D feature extractor that obtains 3D features from rendered multi- view images. Then, we use 2D VLMs as our backbones to train our 3D-LLMs. By introducing a 3D localization mechanism, 3D-LLMs can better capture 3D spatial information. Experiments on ScanQA show that our model outperforms state-of-the-art baselines by a large margin (e.g., the BLEU-1 score surpasses state-of-the-art score by 9%). Furthermore, experiments on our held-in datasets for 3D captioning, task composition, and 3D-assisted dialogue show that our model outperforms 2D VLMs. Qualitative examples also show that our model could perform more tasks beyond the scope of existing LLMs and VLMs.

DreamCraft3D: Hierarchical 3D Generation with Bootstrapped Diffusion Prior paper page: present DreamCraft3D, a hierarchical 3D content generation method that produces high-fidelity and coherent 3D objects. We train a personalized diffusion model, Dreambooth, on the augmented renderings of the scene, imbuing it with 3D knowledge of the scene being optimized. The score distillation from this 3D-aware diffusion prior provides view-consistent guidance for the scene. Notably, through an alternating optimization of the diffusion prior and 3D scene representation, we achieve mutually reinforcing improvements: the optimized 3D scene aids in training the scene-specific diffusion model, which offers increasingly view-consistent guidance for 3D optimization. The optimization is thus bootstrapped and leads to substantial texture boosting. With tailored 3D priors throughout the hierarchical generation, DreamCraft3D generates coherent 3D objects with photorealistic renderings, advancing the state-of-the-art in 3D content generation.

Blended-NeRF: Zero-Shot Object Generation and Blending in Existing Neural Radiance Fields paper page: Editing a local region or a specific object in a 3D scene represented by a NeRF is challenging, mainly due to the implicit nature of the scene representation. Consistently blending a new realistic object into the scene adds an additional level of difficulty. We present Blended-NeRF, a robust and flexible framework for editing a specific region of interest in an existing NeRF scene, based on text prompts or image patches, along with a 3D ROI box. Our method leverages a pretrained language-image model to steer the synthesis towards a user-provided text prompt or image patch, along with a 3D MLP model initialized on an existing NeRF scene to generate the object and blend it into a specified region in the original scene. We allow local editing by localizing a 3D ROI box in the input scene, and seamlessly blend the content synthesized inside the ROI with the existing scene using a novel volumetric blending technique. To obtain natural looking and view-consistent results, we leverage existing and new geometric priors and 3D augmentations for improving the visual fidelity of the final result. We test our framework both qualitatively and quantitatively on a variety of real 3D scenes and text prompts, demonstrating realistic multi-view consistent results with much flexibility and diversity compared to the baselines. Finally, we show the applicability of our framework for several 3D editing applications, including adding new objects to a scene, removing/replacing/altering existing objects, and texture conversion.

Can 1,000 real-world 3D scenes make a state-of-the-art model better? At OVER Research, we tested it by fine-tuning R3, a state-of-the-art streaming 3D reconstruction model, on roughly 1,000 scenes from the OVER dataset. The result: 25% lower trajectory error on our real-world environments compared to the deployed public checkpoint. And we did it using only 1,000 scenes, the same open dataset anyone can download for free, out of the 285,000+ real-world 3D scenes OVER has today. We are developing a new design paradigm that enables seamless integration of 2D and 3D on the same canvas in real time. No need for plugins or cumbersome workflows. It's all connected in a single place. All systems (frames, layouts, booleans, vectors, effects, etc.) work in sync across 2D and 3D, non-destructively. This is the starting point of a fully multi-dimensional design process. At some point in the near future, people won't need to refer to '3d design' as a separate part of the process, because it will be all part of the same system. The following is a demo of this in the works within Hana (a design canvas). We will ship this latest development in about a week.

Alibaba presents MIMO Controllable Character Video Synthesis with Spatial Decomposed Modeling Character video synthesis aims to produce realistic videos of animatable characters within lifelike scenes. As a fundamental problem in the computer vision and graphics community, 3D works typically require multi-view captures for per-case training, which severely limits their applicability of modeling arbitrary characters in a short time. Recent 2D methods break this limitation via pre-trained diffusion models, but they struggle for pose generality and scene interaction. To this end, we propose MIMO, a novel framework which can not only synthesize character videos with controllable attributes (i.e., character, motion and scene) provided by simple user inputs, but also simultaneously achieve advanced scalability to arbitrary characters, generality to novel 3D motions, and applicability to interactive real-world scenes in a unified framework. The core idea is to encode the 2D video to compact spatial codes, considering the inherent 3D nature of video occurrence. Concretely, we lift the 2D frame pixels into 3D using monocular depth estimators, and decompose the video clip to three spatial components (i.e., main human, underlying scene, and floating occlusion) in hierarchical layers based on the 3D depth. These components are further encoded to canonical identity code, structured motion code and full scene code, which are utilized as control signals of synthesis process. The design of spatial decomposed modeling enables flexible user control, complex motion expression, as well as 3D-aware synthesis for scene interactions. Experimental results demonstrate effectiveness and robustness of the proposed method.

Want to create an avatar from a single image? FlexAvatar is a transformer model that creates full 360°, high-quality, and expressive 3D head avatar from just a single portrait image in minutes. Real-time Demo: FlexAvatar's lightweight architecture allows both animation and rendering in real-time, enabling interactive user experiences. To create a new 3D head avatar, only one image is required, e.g., from a webcam. The final avatar is ready after 2 minutes. Architecture: Under the hood, FlexAvatar adopts a transformer-based encoder-decoder design. The encoder maps the input image onto a latent avatar space, while the decoder produces 3D Gaussian attribute maps by incorporating the animation signal via cross-attention. The model learns all facial animations directly from the data without relying on pre-built 3D face models. This equips the avatars with realistic facial expressions. The internal avatar latent space can be conveniently used to integrate additional observations of a person via fitting. This enables use-cases where more than one image of a person is available, e.g., from a phone scan of the person. We train jointly on 2D monocular videos and multi-view data. However, in monocular videos, the animation signal leaks the target viewpoint, causing the model to produce incomplete 3D heads. We call this phenomenon entanglement of driving signal and target viewpoint. To prevent entanglement, we introduce bias sinks. These are learnable tokens that indicate whether a training sample stems from a monocular or a multi-view dataset. During training, the model learns to produce incomplete 3D heads only when the monocular token is present. During inference, FlexAvatar then always uses the multi-view token for which the model has learned to produce complete 3D heads. This simple design allows to combine the generalizability from monocular data with the quality of multi-view data. Experimental results have shown that our model achieves high-quality, diverse, and scalable 3D generation.

We are thrilled to share that our first paper from my new lab, Spateo ( for spatiotemporal modeling of molecular holograms, is now online in Cell: Spateo is a comprehensive analytical framework for 3D whole-embryo spatiotemporal modeling. Its advanced features include: • 3D alignment and reconstruction at the whole-mouse-embryo scale (see the animation). • 3D spatial domain digitization and cell-cell communication analysis to understand spatial gene expression gradients and both inter- and intracellular communication. • 3D morphometric and volumetric analyses along with 3D morphogenesis vector field modeling to quantify dynamics such as surface area, volume, and cell density across organs, and to dissect the interplay between morphogenesis factors and cell migration. • A “Google Earth”-like browser, Spateo-viewer ( and for interactive and intuitive exploration of 3D spatial data. • Additional features, such as RNA signal-based single-cell segmentation. We are also honored that Nature “News and Views” has highlighted this work as well: This is really an amazing outcome after two years' heroic revision process that rewrite the entire paper using a new data ( for whole mouse embryos.

Fun weekend project: using AI at Meta Sam3 to segment objects inside a SpAItial AI scene. Pipeline: -> Generate a world on SpAItial AI app and export as .ply -> PlayCanvas viewer to render splat + a uniform spatial grid over splat centers -> Capture frames + camera pose, POST to a local SAM3 server -> Lift each 2D mask → 3D: frustum-cull splats via the grid, reproject with the pose -> Recolor / isolate the segmented Gaussians This is all running locally on my Mac. Static scene, segment once, reuse persisted mask. All open source (link in comment), you can clone and build on top of this 👇🏽

SuperGSeg: Open-Vocabulary 3D Segmentation with Structured Super-Gaussians Contributions: • We propose SuperGSeg: a 3D segmentation method with neural Gaussians, designed to learn hierarchical instance segmentation features from 2D foundation models. • We introduce the concept of Super-Gaussian, a novel representation that integrates hierarchical instance segmentation features, enabling the embedding of high-dimensional language features. This approach addresses previously unfeasible challenges in representing complex scenes with rich semantic details. • Extensive experiments on the LERF-OVS and ScanNet datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, achieving significant improvements in open-vocabulary 3D object-level and scene-level semantic segmentation. It shows particular strength in capturing fine-grained scene details and dense pixel semantic segmentation tasks for the first time.

TokenFlow: Consistent Diffusion Features for Consistent Video Editing paper page: The generative AI revolution has recently expanded to videos. Nevertheless, current state-of-the-art video models are still lagging behind image models in terms of visual quality and user control over the generated content. In this work, we present a framework that harnesses the power of a text-to-image diffusion model for the task of text-driven video editing. Specifically, given a source video and a target text-prompt, our method generates a high-quality video that adheres to the target text, while preserving the spatial layout and motion of the input video. Our method is based on a key observation that consistency in the edited video can be obtained by enforcing consistency in the diffusion feature space. We achieve this by explicitly propagating diffusion features based on inter-frame correspondences, readily available in the model. Thus, our framework does not require any training or fine-tuning, and can work in conjunction with any off-the-shelf text-to-image editing method. We demonstrate state-of-the-art editing results on a variety of real-world videos.

Code and data are now online for CameraHMR, our state-of-the-art parametric 3D human pose and shape (HPS) estimation method that will appear at hashtag#3DV2025. There are 4 key contributions that make it so accurate and robust: 1. To get accurate 3D shape and pose as well as good alignment to image features, you need to know the focal length of the camera. To solve this, we train HumanFOV to compute the field of view. 2. We introduce CameraHMR, which integrates HumanFOV into HMR2.0 to exploit the estimated focal length. 3. To get accurate pseudo ground truth (pGT) training data, we compute the focal length for images in 4DHumans dataset and modify SMPLify to take this into account. 4. But SMPLify only uses sparse 2D keypoints, which do not capture body shape. So we train a dense surface keypoint detector, DenseKP, on BEDLAM and run it on 4DHumans, resulting in improved body shape. The resulting method is CamSMPLify. We iterate training CameraHMR and running CamSMPLify on the training set initialized with CameraHMR. This results in much improved pGT for 4DHumans and a SOTA single-image HMR method.

At its core is a generalized 3D head decoder trained with perceptual supervision from DINOv2 and SAM 2.1. We find that our new perceptual loss formulation improves reconstruction fidelity compared to commonly-used methods such as LPIPS. Our trained reconstruction model is able to generate 3D-consistent heads from a single input image. Even with challenging side-view inputs, the model robustly infers missing regions for a coherent, high-fidelity output. In addition, our architecture seamlessly adapts to downstream tasks: by swapping the encoder, we can transform the model into a disentangled 3D editing pipeline. In this scenario, we can control geometry through - potentially hand-drawn - segmentation maps, and condition style via image or text prompt.
