Following a 24-hours vacation notice given to illegal traders selling rams on the road median at Alaba Rago, the joint operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps and the Lagos Waste Management Agency LAWMA commenced the cleanup of the entire road median. Today, our LAWMA Project WISE team joined Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI), the Nigeria Police and OP MESA military personnel in a coordinated enforcement operation across the Ketu–Mile 12 corridor, including Ketu Bus Stop and Ile Ile. The operation focused on clearing illegal trading activities from walkways, road setbacks and other unauthorised spaces that had obstructed pedestrian movement and contributed to poor environmental conditions in the area. Beyond clearing the affected locations, the more important task is preventing a return to the same conditions. Our teams are therefore maintaining a presence in the corridor to discourage immediate reoccupation and ensure that the gains from the exercise are sustained. Lagos is a densely populated city where public space is under constant pressure. Keeping our roads, walkways and public spaces clean and accessible requires consistent enforcement, but it also requires cooperation from traders, residents and businesses. We will continue to work with our sister agencies to restore order in identified environmental hotspots and protect public spaces for their intended use. Leo tumekuwa pale Kangemi, where vendors have been consistently dumping waste in the middle of the road, creating both an environmental and public health hazard. We engaged the market leadership on the best ways to restore environmental order and ensure full compliance with waste management regulations. I also conducted awareness sessions with the traders on the importance of maintaining cleanliness and working together to stop illegal dumping. We will continue to monitor the area closely to ensure full compliance and keep Kangemi clean and safe for everyone.
