Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources carried out a Joint Sanitation exercise with officers of the Navy Ship BEECROFT Command, Apapa base to clean up Mobil Road, Marine Beach Apapa and environ. This exercise is a follow-up to the collaborative meeting recently held with Naval Command to ensure a sustained cleaner environment in Apapa axis of the State. The initiative would make a meaningful impact in the affected areas by improving the well-being of the residents and restore sanity to the area. The team from the Lagos State government was led by the Special Adviser on the Environment, Engr. Kunle Rotimi- Akodu accompanied by the Permanent Secretaries; Office of Environmental Services, Dr. Gaji Omobolaji; Office of Drainage Services Engr. Mahamood Adegbite; MD LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegeshin; KAI Corps Marshal, Major Olatubosun Cole (Rtd); LASWMO GM, Engr Adefemi Afolabi and other Directors from the Ministry and its Agencies. The Navy Command led by Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Micheal Oamen emphasized that the cleanup will be a regular exercise and that the Command is ready to collaborate with the relevant agencies of the Ministry to ensure enforcement sustainability in line with what the Military authorities call Civil Military Engagement. During the joint-sanitation exercise, the team addressed some of the motor boys, their drivers, traders and mechanics, to enlighten them on the importance of this exercise. Operators of the mechanic workshops under the Marine Beach Bridge were also given 48hours ultimatum to vacate the area.
