Gower was shafted. Recalled, broke Boycs record. Made an ice cool 31* to win the 4th test but didn’t make the plane to India when arguably he was our best player of spin, yet they took dross like Reeve, Blakey, a past it Embers etc and Fat Gatt who in 1990 fucked off to SA.

David Gower was one of the finest southpaw the cricket world ever had, he was one of my favourite LHB…

I’m lucky enough to have watched him both for Leicestershire and England, I’ve never seen anyone more in tune with a sport that he rose above its constraints with a nonchalant ease. Also saw him play with the apparent disinterest of my dead goldfish I’m sure neither were true.

The Gooch Gower situation was very unfortunate because both were great players. England were stronger with both men in the team.
