Named after the late theoretical physicist Peter Higgs, its discovery crowned the #StandardModel of particle physics. In 2013, the The Nobel Prize for Physics was awarded to... François Englert and Peter Higgs for their 1964 proposal of the Brout–Englert–Higgs mechanism. The Brout-Englert-Higgs mechanism (BEH mechanism) describes how fundamental particles get mass. The theory was developed independently by Robert Brout, François Englert and Peter Higgs.

I miss my old friend, physicist Peter Higgs. He was a brilliant scientist and a wonderful human being. I will always cherish the memories of our friendship.

The Standard Model describes the properties and interactions of the constituents of matter.
