OpenAI Codex is now integrated directly in Visual Studio Code through the new Agent Sessions view - and can be powered by your GitHub Copilot subscription. Try it out now with VS Code Insiders and a Copilot Pro+ subscription. Happy coding!

Model costs :)

Using Codex in Web still feels like it has more reasoning power than in CLI, or within VSCode but don't know if it's running a fundamentally different model?

You’re no longer writing code in VS Code. You’re writing code with VS Code.

not sure. helpful if I can choose my own agent.

So now my code editor writes code for me. We've officially come full circle.

I don’t understand when you have GitHub copilot subscription we already have access to gpt 5 codex then what’s the use this integration?

finally, an IDE that writes its own code so devs can focus on what really matters... debugging what the AI wrote 💀

what version is that ? i dont have it in 1.105.1

So we aren’t even looking at or reviewing code anymore?

Vibe Coding gets more crazy 🤯

Cline/Kilo still seem just as good if not better.

whats the limit

Waiting on the Codex API to use it programmatically in @BaloonDev . Any ETA ?

Why don’t you have this in visual studio professional? The GitHub copilot agent mode is just not as good.

When I first saw this while browsing on vs code I thought I discovered gold🏆

This integration streamlines coding, potentially boosting productivity for developers using Copilot. Agent Sessions could redefine how we interact with AI in coding environments.

Does this mean OpenAI's Codex extension is now deprecated for Insiders?

How's the context, similar to the normal OpenAI Codex, or more limited?

That’s a huge step forward for dev productivity

Does not work that good

Does this use your token allotment for GitHub copilot or do you have to use your Open AI key and its pay as you go for usage?

how it's different from the vs code extension?

Cool to see Codex in VS Code! Can’t wait to try the new features with my Copilot subscription.

Not available for Enterprise plan? :(

Openai is evil but we suck at software development so we need to empower them to make ourselves more competitive in this rigged market
Why Pro+ only? Your own product "GitHub Copilot CLI" has gpt-5-codex for Pro subscription.

Can I also just hook it up to my ChatGPT Plus plan, like I've done with my WSL Codex CLI installation on Win11?

Game changer for developer productivity workflows

Is it available for pro plan in Insider?

When will it be available for pro plan

any plan for pro users?

VS code copilot sucks. Just end it altogether.

miss the old days when I had to crack my head up to fix the bug without AI 😢💔

That’s a strong signal, pushing AI deeper into developer workflows through the CLI or IDE is exactly how we accelerate high-leverage, context-aware productivity.
