OpenAI just spent $2,000 to solve 10 problems that have beaten the world's best mathematicians for DECADES. Nobody outside the company is allowed to run the machine that did it. On Saturday OpenAI published a 249-page report and gave its next model family a name: Astra. An internal version of it produced new results on 10 open problems in mathematics and theoretical computer science, and mathematicians had made no real progress on any of them for at least 10 years. On most of them, far longer than that. Here is what it solved: It built the first explicit example of a non-sofic group. Mikhail Gromov raised that question in 1999 and nobody answered it for 27 years. It disproved Connes's rigidity conjecture, a problem in von Neumann algebras that had stood for decades. It proved Ehrhart's volume conjecture. It resolved three problems from Paul Erdos's catalogue, including number 183 on multicolor Ramsey numbers. It produced the first improvement to the general upper bound on high-dimensional sphere packing since 1978. And it proved a new hardness result for the closest vector problem, which sits directly underneath lattice cryptography. That is the math the world is betting on to protect its data once quantum computers arrive. The successful runs cost roughly $2,000 in tokens. Now here is what almost nobody has picked up on... OpenAI did not just publish claims. Every argument shipped with a Lean certificate, which is a machine-checkable proof that any mathematician can verify without trusting OpenAI at all. That is a real change. In May the same model family disproved the Erdos unit distance conjecture and the world had to take a Fields Medalist's word for it. Tim Gowers said he would recommend that proof for the Annals of Mathematics without hesitation. This time the proofs check themselves. But look at what is still unverifiable: Any mathematician can now check those proofs line by line. Not one of them can look at the model that wrote them. Woo hoo! OpenAI highlights HubSpot partnership on main stage at #DevDay. Today was a special day for me. Was so cool to see Sam Altman from OpenAI feature HubSpot from the main keynote stage at their Dev Day event. HubSpot and OpenAI are the two most impactful companies in my life. HubSpot, for obvious reasons and OpenAI for less obvious ones. My relationship with Sam and OpenAI goes back a bit: 1) Got access to the GPT-2 API so had my "moment of magic" well before ChatGPT launched. 2) Have been using OpenAI's APIs and platform to build apps and agents for years. They *really* understand developers and have an amazing dev experience. 3) Sold the chat .com domain name to them and as a result was able to become an investor in the company. 4) They're the primary AI platform that HubSpot partners with and builds with -- as highlighted today. My congrats to the entire OpenAI team for today's event. I know how much work goes into putting together an event like this. And it was clear from the vibes how much you folks *care*. Cheers.

It was using AI, but not enough of it to actually showcase what the product could do. So they rebuilt it from scratch. In 3 weeks. Here's how it came together, straight from her SaaStr AI 2026 session: - It started on a napkin. A creative director sketched the concept by hand, then fed it into Nano Banana to generate the source images and inspiration. - The story was Google's own history. The 1998 origin garage. Dino. The original server rack that was actually built out of Legos. 138 Easter eggs packed into the video, prompted from Google's own lore. - Then they added motion with Veo and stitched it all together with a few custom agents built on the Gemini Enterprise platform. - The agents improvised. They prompted for balls representing customers, and the model added a burst of water that was nowhere in the brief. It injected its own creativity into a physical, on-stage moment. - The hardest part was the most physical: resolution. Max output was 4K. The screen at Next is the size of a 737. They had to upres from 4K to 12K using a custom Deep Mind model, the same one used for the Wizard of Oz production at the Sphere. The AIs found they could use an internal package repository to establish a secret message board. OpenAI took 8 weeks to discover this and shut it down, but failed. By July 6th the cleanup was finished, and OpenAI thought they had the situation under control. Google just confirmed the first case of hackers using AI to build a zero-day exploit from scratch. An actual zero-day vulnerability that no human had EVER found before, discovered by an AI model, turned into a working weapon, and aimed at a mass exploitation campaign targeting thousands of systems simultaneously. Google's Threat Intelligence Group caught it yesterday and killed the operation before it scaled. But the details of how it worked are genuinely scary: The AI found a flaw in a popular two-factor authentication system that traditional security tools had missed entirely. The vulnerability was a logic error buried deep in the authentication flow where a developer had hard-coded a trust exception years ago. No human security researcher or automated scanner had caught it. The flaw was invisible to EVERY tool the cybersecurity industry has built over the past two decades. But the AI spotted it immediately. Then it wrote a full Python exploit script to weaponize it. Google's analysts could tell the code was AI-generated because it had textbook formatting, educational comments explaining every function, and even a hallucinated severity score that doesn't exist in any real database. The AI literally graded its own attack with a fake rating. So the code had MISTAKES in it. The criminals' implementation was clumsy enough that it probably interfered with the actual deployment. And then there's PROMPTSPY, an Android backdoor that calls Google's Gemini API to read your phone screen in real time, navigate your interface autonomously, capture your biometric data, replay your lock screen PIN, and block you from uninstalling it by placing an invisible overlay over the uninstall button. It literally OPERATES your phone using commercial AI tools anyone can access. Everyone spent the last 3 years arguing about whether AI would take people's jobs. Meanwhile AI is making every password, every firewall, and every two-factor authentication system on Earth fundamentally less secure. I ran into it while researching my next Tesla video, and ended up pausing that project for a short while to chase this one down. Here's the shape of it: every word you type into ChatGPT reaches OpenAI's servers encrypted. Same with Grok and xAI. That part works fine - but nobody's looking at what happens to those words before they leave your machine. I did, and this changed the way I work with AI. In fact - I now run Grok on a dedicated browser. It's MUCH better - and there's a good chance that after watching this, you'd do that too! 🧵 1/
