Dear TW, Don't you think it's best engaging these cart pushers, register them, and provide various approved dump site location to them because currently the psp operators are unable to meet demand. Therefore, collaboration is the way forward

I would have thought the best thing to do is to register and formalize the collectors activities - with some incentives to drop their collections at a designated location. Why can't we be more creative - everything is not by stick; there is also carrot!

Why arrest "illegal" cart pushers who are many residents recourse for waste disposal @tokunbo_wahab ? More effective to integrate them into the waste disposal plan.

Good one! Although,those illegal cart pushers are the last mile refuse collector at many locations,they play an important role in the refuse collection value chain. It will be wise to aggregate,train,equip them to dispose refuse properly. Isn't that Job creation?!

Further to our ongoing enforcement and mop-up operations across key corridors of the State, our teams recorded the following arrests today: Eighteen beggars were apprehended along the Ketu–Mile 12 axis for constituting environmental nuisance and obstructing public spaces. Thirty-eight miscreants were arrested for soliciting alms and causing traffic disruptions along the Lekki–Epe Expressway. In addition, one Mafus Azeez, aged 15, was apprehended along the Lekki–Epe Expressway for aggressively soliciting alms by displaying bank account details and operating a POS device on the road. This individual is known for repeatedly engaging in this activity despite previous warnings. Enforcement will continue consistently across the State as we work to keep our roads safe, orderly, and free from environmental and social infractions. #CleanerLagos

From July 1, full enforcement of the ban on Single Use Plastics begins. Offenders who dump refuse illegally, litter the streets, or deface our environment will face stiff penalties, up to ₦250,000 fine or 3 months in jail. We’ve arrested over 3,000 offenders and counting, and we’re ramping up surveillance Anne advocacy. Yesterday, two separate incidents involving suspected “Omotaku” touts were recorded at different locations across the State. At Marwa Bus Stop in Lekki, a truck driver whose vehicle had broken down was confronted and threatened by individuals who demanded his phone and money. Similarly, another incident occurred at Palmgrove along Ikorodu Road, where suspected touts attempted to harass road users. In both instances, operatives of the Lagos State Taskforce swiftly intervened and apprehended the suspects. They will be processed in accordance with the law. Following credible reports that hoodlums had taken over the Orile Under Bridge and were extorting money from cart pushers who dump refuse illegally in the area, the Environmental Task Force carried out a raid at about 2:45pm today. During the operation, 26 suspects were arrested. Some of them admitted to collecting money from cart pushers in exchange for allowing indiscriminate dumping of waste. They have been taken into custody for further investigation and necessary action in line with the law. In a separate operation earlier today at about 8:00am, Agency operatives continued the ongoing clean-up exercise along the Coastal Road. Hoodlums had converted the road setback into makeshift dwellings, erecting several wooden sheds and occupying the corridor unlawfully. The illegal structures were dismantled, and items stored along the roadside were removed. We will not allow public infrastructure to be hijacked for illegal activities. I have been briefed on the latest enforcement carried out by KAI operatives around Ketu, Mile 12, Ikosi Road, and the 7UP corridor. The operation, which resulted in the arrest of twenty individuals engaging in street begging and related activities, is part of our ongoing mop-up exercise designed to curb environmental infractions, safeguard the public, and prevent activities that threaten safety, traffic flow, and sanitation. Those apprehended have been transferred to the appropriate authorities for profiling and further necessary action. We will continue to enforce environmental laws across the State, and I urge members of the public to support this effort by reporting locations where such activities persist.
