Jenny Wen, head of design for Claude at Anthropic: "the design process is dead." what replaces it runs on machine-readable design systems In a 1-hour conversation, Jenny Wen breaks down why the discovery -> mock -> iterate loop is dying and what designers do instead. design system -> Claude Code -> every screen fixed at once, not one at a time i rebuilt the same 10-screen dashboard twice: ~6 hours of restyling by hand vs ~40 minutes when the fix lived in the system. how to build that system and hand it to Claude Code is in the article below.

Our AI in Design case study featuring Linear is live! A couple things stood out to me right away as we were talking to Karri Saarinen and team about how they use AI in their flow - 1. They go waaay deeper with AI before doing any work that most teams would categorize as “design” though they rightfully see it as a key part of the design process. This means asking AI for info on how a UI came to be, who has worked on it historically, why a certain change might work or not, etc. They really use AI to deeply understand the problem they’re about to tackle. 2. The way they use AI within Linear gives them a crazy advantage. Imagine asking something like: “What designer has touched this feature in the last 5 years and why does it work the way it does?” Good luck getting a good answer for this at most companies. At Linear they have all that context IN Linear… it’s a huge advantage they have and one they utilize to no end. This approach is an incredible way to save unnecessary iterations and ensure you’re building a product that’s moving the company in the right direction. Lots more great insights and examples in the full case study here -

The design team is growing 🔥 We just opened two new roles to work on brand at Lovable. If you love building custom design tools with AI, we should talk. Over the past months, we’ve built a bunch of internal apps for design, brand, and marketing. From generating brand assets to experimenting with motion, logos, and entirely new creative workflows. Now we want to take this much further. We’re looking for: → Brand Designer, AI & Ops → Brand Engineer If you’re excited about exploring what brand design looks like in the age of AI, come build with us! DM's are open!

You've probably used design systems in tools like Figma or Canva. Capsule is the first product to combine the concept of design systems with a video tool that's so easy anyone can do it. Loved by teams at Hubspot, Apollo, ServiceNow, and 100+ more.

The future of design is… engineering. All designers at Vercel now also build, thanks to tools like v0, Claude Code, and Cursor. They've been contributing to our frontends and apps for a while now. But over the past few months, the leap they've made is engineering the design process itself by building agents. A big part of shipping is getting the word out in a compelling way, especially on the X platform, the everything app. In the past, we used to spend a bunch of time hand-crafting images and illustrations for social cards. Our design team built an internal agent and web ui using v0 and Claude Code that makes this process fully self-serve. It even includes a previewer of what the final artifact will look like on X. It's called Leap. It's probably saved us hundreds of hours of work but also massively raised our quality bar. The artifacts it produces are beautiful. If you had asked me even 12 months ago whether our design team would be building their own design tools, let alone be this good, I would call bs. There was no master plan, or God forbid, a "sprint" to make this happen. It just took a handful of prompts to build and it propagated on Slack. Leap is now one of the many agents that helps us run our company more smoothly, built and securely deployed on Vercel for our internal use.

The most complete AI design skill stack is now in Open Design. AI agents can build full apps. But most of them still design like shit. You used to spend more time fixing the design than building the app. And prompting harder does not fix taste. So Open Design integrated the design skills everyone on X is talking about: Taste Skill Hallmark Frontend Design Image-to-Code Design Review 100+ design systems It works locally with 20+ AI CLIs: Codex, Claude Code, Cursor, Gemini CLI, OpenCode, and more. Pick your agent. Generate pages that finally have taste. 👉

We’ve had quite a bit of attention lately. A lot of incredible people are reaching out and it feels like half the X design community is playing around with our style. The other half is trying to figure out what makes it work. What we do isn’t technically complex or groundbreaking at all. I think it stands out simply because finance design/branding, especially on the B2B side where we operate, is usually dull and conservative. In fact, we’re just two self-taught designers creating basically everything you see in our socials. We’ve turned our technical shortcomings into an advantage by learning to do a few simple things really well. If you want to join me, haris, and the rest of the small design team at Quartr, send us your portfolio and a message about why you’re excited to join. We’re looking for quality-obsessed people in UI/UX, motion, and graphic design who want to do their life’s work.

We've partnered with Paul Jankura to host an official Claude Code workshop in NYC and I genuinely cannot stop thinking about how good this is going to be. We've been getting an incredible amount of requests from our enterprise clients for Claude Code training, and we're thrilled to finally be doing something official with Anthropic to meet that demand. This workshop is being run by an Anthropic engineer, one of our senior AI Strategists at tenex, and myself — and we're going all in on teaching you how to orchestrate agents with Claude Code. Getting set up, skills, hooks, plugins, and more. You'll leave having actually built things, not just watched a demo. You'll see the magic of Claude firsthand! We're also pulling back the curtain on how our engineers at Tenex are using Claude Code inside Fortune 500 companies right now to accelerate impact — and we'll take live questions on what implementing Claude Code at scale actually looks like. World-class venue, the right people in the room, and a real hands-on experience your team can bring back and put to work immediately. Free event. 30 spots total. We're accepting up to 2 people per org — usually a senior decision maker and a technical partner. April 10th, New York City. If you're serious about bringing Claude Code into your org, this is the room to be in. Apply here:

This is why a top designer doesn't care about pixel perfection when vibe coding The goal with using AI design tools is to generate visual artifacts quickly and get alignment with stakeholders Most designers unfortunately waste a lot of hours and credits chasing pixel perfection when vibe coding. This should be done much later in the process after stakeholder alignment Shoutout to Diego Zaks for sharing Ramp's AI design process with the design community 🙏 👀 Watch the full interview on Sneak Peek: georgevisan shows how the Ramp design team uses Magic Patterns for stakeholder alignment👇

AI will determine the future of WORK, BUSINESS, and LIFE. And there are huge questions: Will AI unleash our creativity and help us to flourish? Or will we lose even more power, agency, and ownership? It all depends on the design of the tech infrastructure. As Chris Dixon often says, “Architecture is destiny.” And how AI systems are designed will be key to the future we all live in. The team at gensyn is building a protocol that connects every device in the world into an open network for machine intelligence, with no gatekeepers or artificial boundaries. They are shaping a future of AI that is good for all of us. At a recent Innoveum event, I chatted to cofounder and CEO of gensyn about what they’re building, how it transforms AI, and why we should all be relieved, excited, and get involved. The full conversation is below in Episode One of Innoveum | The Podcast. 👇

How Elon Musk fixed Starlink: “Starlink was a mess. It was 10X too expensive and they were building 1/10 of how many they needed. Elon’s like I've had it. This is now the bottleneck. I'm fixing this. He grabs a team of engineers that he trusts and they fly up to Seattle. They fire the entire Starlink leadership team. They sit down in a war room and they start running the algorithm. •What is the first principles of satellite design? •How simple can we make this thing? •Why does this exist? •Why are these two things so far apart? •Why do we need this much energy? •Why do we need this manufacturing process? And over the course of a few months they make a two order of magnitude leap. These people had never encountered this design before, but just by applying the algorithm and working with maniacal urgency towards this extremely high design bar, they created this product that's now —if it was a standalone business —would be worth tens of billions of dollars [or more].”

AI is turning designs into code at unprecedented speed. Excellent insights from Evan Spiegel, founder of Snap: 1. The best way to have a good idea is to have lots of ideas. 2. The whole world of design is changing rapidly because designers are empowered by AI and can ship and test immediately. 3. If you were to sit in on a Snap design meeting you’d hear us go through a huge volume of work. 100s of ideas in a few hours. 4. The most toxic thing you can have is people attached to an idea. 5. If you create a culture where there’s an endless flow of ideas you’re much more likely to get lucky and find a great one. 6. Less than 1% of the ideas we discuss are ever seen by a user. 7. Ideas are free. There should be a zillion of them. 8. Design to code is happening way faster than ever before. [And this trend will only accelerate]

Introducing Kombai 2.0 - the first AI design engineer. We keep hearing that AGI is almost here. Still, we’re stuck with coding agents that don’t have taste and design tools that don’t understand our codebase. Both are artifacts of a world where design and engineering were two different jobs, with a handoff in between. That world is changing fast. Today, designers ship code, engineers want to escape handoffs, and everyone wants to build tasteful UX. Kombai is built for this new world. Design and engineering, finally on the same side.

After testing every AI toolchain for a year, this is the only workflow I'm endorsing: Figma → Claude Code (Sonnet 4.5) Here's how I'm building Lorelight: 1. Design the happy path in Figma 2. Feed it to Claude Code via Figma MCP 3. Get a strong foundation in 15 minutes 4. Spend the next 50+ hours iterating (still design work) The design/dev loop that used to be isolated is finally closing. I even built a complete design system in within minutes. Custom components, living documentation, accessibility rules all from the Figma designs. If you're measuring the effectiveness of these tools by whether they can "one-shot" a design, you're consuming too many AI hype commercials. Log off. Then go actually build something with your hands. With AI. With your taste. Stop trying to "one-shot" good shit. And go make stuff with the new tools. For designers who want to ship real products, this is the stack that's getting it done.

In March 2025, Dario Amodei said that “In 12 months, AI [may be] writing essentially all of the code.” 9 months later, Anthropic released Claude Codework (the team gave plans and design, but Claude generated all the code in 10 days). From here, Amodei says the programmer’s role is to set specifications for the AI: ▫️What are the conditions of what you’re doing? ▫️What is the overall app you’re trying to make? ▫️What’s the overall design decision? How do we collaborate with other code that’s been written? ▫️How do we have some common sense on whether [this] is a secure design or an insecure design? But he ultimately believes Claude will automate all of that too.

"AI gets you to average quickly. Your job is to push past that." Here's my new episode with Dylan Field (Figma CEO) where I asked him some tough questions, including: → Can you teach AI design taste? → Do design systems hurt creativity? → What's Figma's role when code is free? Two-thirds of Figma users are now non-designers and it was super interesting to hear Dylan talk about Figma's future. Some quotes from Dylan: "Design is the new code. You'll be designing in a visual-first way before pushing a pull request right to production." "If you're a PM and you think your job is to make docs and slide decks, you're going to love this new world. You get to make things too." "If everyone agrees with your point of view, then you probably don't have one." 📌 Watch now: Thanks to our sponsors: Replit ⠕: Plan, design, and build with AI agents Linear: The AI agent platform for modern teams
