Our 2026 Design in AI Report is now live! This report is the culmination of thousands of people hours and many late nights to create what we believe is the most comprehensive, well-researched report capturing and synthesizing the state of Design + AI today. While we used AI in many areas, a report like this still required deep thinking, grit, and humans coming together to do what they do best. The final report spans nearly 20k words covering the survey results of over 900 people paired with dozens of qualitative interviews. Over the coming months we will also release 7 beautiful case studies showing how top design teams are working on the ground featuring designers at Anthropic, Framer, Linear, Notion, Shopify, Sierra, and Stripe. This work is a true labor of love to help guide a design community we hold so dear. Link in the comments and please let us know what you think. Your feedback helps us shape how we will evolve this work over the coming years...

“The only wrong answer is to do nothing” Enjoy our latest AI in Design case study from the Shopify design team! This one is crammed with many incredible examples of how they work (the last example made me yell “oh no way” when I first saw it). Lots of teams talk about “a culture that supports experimentation”, but few teams do it at this level. 00:00 Designing in a new era 01:35 From mockups to working prototypes 04:16 Designing your dev workflow 07:00 Beyond code: Product, data, research 09:31 A home for fragmented design tools 10:24 AI is just another tool Let us know what you think! Our AI in Design case study featuring Linear is live! A couple things stood out to me right away as we were talking to Karri Saarinen and team about how they use AI in their flow - 1. They go waaay deeper with AI before doing any work that most teams would categorize as “design” though they rightfully see it as a key part of the design process. This means asking AI for info on how a UI came to be, who has worked on it historically, why a certain change might work or not, etc. They really use AI to deeply understand the problem they’re about to tackle. 2. The way they use AI within Linear gives them a crazy advantage. Imagine asking something like: “What designer has touched this feature in the last 5 years and why does it work the way it does?” Good luck getting a good answer for this at most companies. At Linear they have all that context IN Linear… it’s a huge advantage they have and one they utilize to no end. This approach is an incredible way to save unnecessary iterations and ensure you’re building a product that’s moving the company in the right direction. Lots more great insights and examples in the full case study here -

Our first AI in Design 2026 case study is live, featuring Sierra! Sierra’s design team is only handful of people (though growing quickly) supporting an engineering org of 100+! They’ve had to be extremely thoughtful about how they work with an eng org of that size... At first with AI, it was easy to fix every design nit themselves. Now they focus on creating the systems and components for the whole org while having a clear POV on where to sweat the details by hand (e.g. spending two hours getting a 16-pixel icon right... watch to see why) “If we can touch production code and the systems more easily with stuff like Claude or Cursor, what is a designer’s role in trying to empower at scale? Instead of doing one little pixel at a time, we should build the infrastructure that engineers use to create new features.” We talked to Wayne Fan and Nick about: - The advantages of a small design team - Compressing "cook, prototype, be wrong, go back" cycle into a few hours - The "51st engineer" trap: why fixing every design nit yourself doesn't scale - Bringing back the joy of designing by doing some things by hand

Evan Sharp, the founder of Pinterest, is such a unique founder. Constant curiosity mixed with the ability to go deeper on a problem than most people ever would. At the same time, despite leading/founding a $20B+ company, I think many designers can see themselves in him...
