A student I’m working with, Noah. He built a test rig to study how dust behaves along the plume reflection planes for a multi-engine lunar lander, using a crane to lower it to the lunar regolith simulant like a lunar landing. This is just cold-compressed gas, not hot fire thrusters, and it is ambient pressure, not vacuum, but it is valuable to study the phenomenology of dust behavior in complex flow fields and it is a first step before higher fidelity but more expensive tests.

The AVac (Archimedes Vacuum) engine produces 1.2x lbf of its Stage 1 variant and stands ~2.5m taller thanks to its extended nozzle optimized for the vacuum conditions of space. Recent AVac testing included a stub skirt for the nozzle. Huge update from Astranis Mission Control: all four Block 2 satellites have successfully completed initial commissioning and are now headed to GEO using their on board ion thrusters. This is a huge deal. Here are some highlights from our first week and half on orbit: - Nominal deployment in our target orbit: 400km x 65,000km x 12.5 deg inclination (thank you SpaceX) - All pre-separation logic and separation autonomy worked perfectly, and all autonomous deployments (solar arrays, ion thruster gimbals, and secondary antenna reflectors) successfully completed - Checkouts of thermal management systems, power subsystems, software, and GNC - Reaction wheel, SADA, and monopropellant thruster commissioning - Monoprop detumble and transition to fine pointing control using reaction wheels and star trackers - Sun-pointing mode achieved for maximum power generation - High rate TTC downlink and download of onboard data - Subreflector boom deployment and verification via photodiode telemetry - Ion thruster gimbal commissioning, demonstrating successful gimbal deployment - Simultaneous command of all 5 Astranis satellites, using 9 different ground stations across 4 continents - 100% successful deployments: all solar arrays, booms, gimbals, reflectors, splashplates — 60x total hold down release mechanism deployments without issue - Test-fired and characterized all 8 monoprop thrusters on all 4 satellites (32x thrusters total) - Commissioned the Electric Propulsion (EP) system, including successfully test-firing each satellite's ion thruster - Conducted an initial payload checkout on all 4 vehicles— the Software-Defined Radios, RF front end electronics, high-power amplifiers (TWTAs), and LNAs have all been checked out and are performing nominally - Executed long-duration EP burns on all four vehicles, and have beginning orbit raises to GEO from our current GTO orbits In short: the satellites are working great and are on their way to GEO where they will start their missions for our customers. To celebrate the New Year and the successful test of our 100kg engine, we decided to have some fun with its smaller sibling, the DG J40. Naturally, we strapped it to a bicycle. What could go wrong? Stage 1: Idle thrust, went straight—smooth and easy start. Stage 2: Took a U-turn for another straight run—feeling confident. Stage 3: Full throttle—bike rockets forward, brakes fail, and I almost hit a car. Stage 4: Reduced throttle, managed to dodge the car (somehow). Stage 5: Shut it down, praying the leftover brakes would stop me. Lesson: Even the DG J40 delivers more thrust than you’d expect on a bike. Here's to a thrilling New Year!

The thing about AI animations ads that people on X don't tell you is that the script and visual directions are WAY more important that the actual generation itself. Anyone can animate a character in Higgsfield. Writing a DR script and pairing it with GOOD visual directions is what will determine whether it performs or not. We have our strategists' handle the ideation and scripting, and have hired a full-time specialist AI video editor to do the visuals. I have to say it's been one of the best hires we've made.

Some partnerships stay with you because you remember exactly where they began. It was a matter of pride to witness the historic Vikram-1 takeoff and address the incredible Skyroot team today. I still remember my first conversation with them in Visakhapatnam. Their ambition was unmistakable. It was clear that they were helping build India’s future in space. We knew Andhra Pradesh had to be part of that journey. We took their proposal to the Cabinet, crafted a startup-friendly package, and envisioned ‘Space City’ in Tirupati with companies like Skyroot at its heart. Because ambition like theirs should never be constrained by infrastructure. Today, seeing Vikram-1 reach orbit on its maiden mission fills me with immense pride. We're coming in hot (fire) with an update on our third stage: We have completed a full duration hot fire of the fully integrated Redshift OTV, qualifying it for flight. As always, our approach for this hot fire was to get as close to the real thing as possible. So it included a nearly 600s (10 minutes!) burn after an assumed stage separation, followed by a 40 minute coasting phase simulation, and a 30s orbit circularization burn. Welcome to LEO! The team will now prepare the fully qualified Redshift OTV for its shipment to SaxaVord, where it will be integrated with the payloads for the first test flight later this year. So over the years as a Content Creator for World of Warcraft, I've picked up a few great camera tricks that can make your footage look more professional. Not sure how widely known these are but I'll share some that I know and hopefully it will be helpful to someone! So firstly, let me show you how to do a smooth rotation shot. You're going to want to create a Macro for this with this script; /script MoveViewRightStart(0.15) To modify the direction, you can change the word "Right" to Left, In, Out, Up or Down. The number at the end indicates the speed of the rotation, the higher the number the faster the rotation. I tend to keep this fairly low for a nice non-sickening rotation. Now you can combine as many of these as you like. So if you wanted a smooth shot that zoomed in on your Character while rotating Right you would make a macro like this; /script MoveViewRightStart(0.15) /script MoveViewInStart(0.15) It is fun to play around with but you will also need to create a "Stop" macro. I go with a generic one like this which will stop all rotation in all directions; /script MoveViewLeftStop() /script MoveViewDownStop() /script MoveViewRightStop() /script MoveViewUpStop() /script MoveViewInStop() /script MoveViewOutStop() Another trick to get the best possible shots of areas or up close combat is to hide your Character model. This is done with a simple console command; /console showplayer To show your player character again just type it again. I'm sure there are easier ways to do this, but that's just the way I've always done it to get nice smooth footage of World of Warcraft for videos.
