Pokémon Stadium, running natively on iOS and iPadOS for the first time. Pokémon has been all over X this week because of Gen1Recomp. That made me want to bring the original Pokémon Stadium to iPhone and iPad. Not an emulator. The game has been statically recompiled and rebuilt as a native ARM64 app rendering directly through Metal. No N64 hardware being simulated, no ROM interpreted at runtime, no streaming from a Mac. And it is more than a new way to play it. AnnePad fixes several of the crackle and audio-timing problems that crop up when Pokémon Stadium is emulated. I genuinely think it is the best way to play the original game today. Pair a Bluetooth controller and play the whole thing. Touch works too, and multiplayer. I used Codex 5.6 Sol to build the Apple layer. Open sourcing it all below.

Playing Bayonetta 3 from scratch after 3 years feels strangely nostalgic and sad at the same time. We had so many great memories with this game (300 hours maybe), but at the same time, it received so much hate from others. Playing it on Switch 2 makes me realize this is probably what we should have had on the original Switch: a beautiful, stable 60 FPS experience. PlatinumGames clearly had to cut the game down to the bone just to make it run. Textures, effects, distant scenery… you can see the compromises everywhere. And that poor Switch used to get so hot it felt like you could cook a chicken on it. Yet the characters and combat still look incredible. Now, on Switch 2, the game runs effortlessly. No heat, no noise, no struggle. Just silent. It honestly feels bittersweet. I’ll keep saying it: we deserve a Bayonetta 3 Nintendo Switch 2 Edition.

Nice and underrated: no home versions during the 1990s.
