Paper-packaging isn't a 'green' alternative to plastic, and as paper-based, throw-away, single-use packaging is on the rise, we systematically lose more irreplaceable forests! Frédérique Ries enable a shift to reuse systems: MAKE REDUCE & REUSE INTO LAW #PPWR #MakeThrowAwayGoAway

As the EU is finalising the #PPWR, the industry is fighting back, trying to save BAU instead of carbon-stocks, freshwater & the climate! @EUCouncil & @EP_Environment we need this law to result in a massive reduction in unnecessary disposable packaging, whatever they are made of!

@GretaThunberg @Frederiqueries We are throwing away far far too much. We are actually throwing away LIFE! #PPWR

@Frederiqueries I thought the paper packaging was supposed to be recycled. Doesn't it say "out of recycled materials"?

@GretaThunberg @Frederiqueries I thought sustainability was about doing projects that are sustainable, like sustainable forest harvesting. If some projects aren’t sustainable, isn’t the goal to make them so, rather than slowly watch plastic drown us all?

@Frederiqueries Perhaps you didn't know, but trees are farmed and grown specifically for the purpose of making paper. They're grown and harvested and replanted just like any other crop.

@Frederiqueries Plastic, for example, takes an average of 400 years to decompose while paper takes 3 to 6 months. It takes 2 weeks or less to cut down a forest, but let's remember that money comes from trees, in other words, paper comes from trees. Or do we stop using money or paper bags!?

@GretaThunberg @Frederiqueries

@GretaThunberg @Frederiqueries 👍

@GretaThunberg @Frederiqueries Swedish forests have been sustainably forested for 700 years. What is wrong with that again? If they can do it, why can’t others? What do you propose be done instead, because you are slowing transition from plastic to paper, which net does far more harm?
