"Patriots" can only be called air defense systems if they work and save lives rather than standing immobile somewhere in storage bases. Modern fighter jets are required where modernity is put to the test and it is determined whether children and grandchildren of today's generations will live in peace... and security. The democratic world has the strength to defeat Russian terror. It should not be afraid of its own power and instead work to practically protect life. "Patriots" need to be in Ukrainian hands right now. Modern fighter jets are needed in Ukrainian skies. Russian missiles and Iranian "Shahed" drones must be defeated so that in the future, ruins cannot triumph over life anywhere. We can only effectively combat terror by working together and taking joint steps. And I am grateful to every country and leader who has already recognized this. In just a few days between December 29th and now, Russia has used about 300 missiles and over 200 “Shahed” drones against Ukraine. Prior to Ukraine, no country in the world had ever successfully repulsed such combined attacks with the use of drones and missiles, including air-launched ballistic missiles. Only today, 10 Kinzhals were shot down. I am grateful to every warrior in our Air Forces, all fighters in mobile air defense groups, every anti-aircraft gunner, and everyone throughout the world who is assisting Ukraine by providing weapons to defend our skies. Each additional air defense system and missile saves more lives. It is here, in Ukraine, and with our air defense, that we must demonstrate that democracies are capable of protecting lives from all types of terror. If we fail to achieve this task in Ukraine now, Russian terror will further spread throughout Europe and beyond. The Russian leadership's sense of impunity, forged over decades of unrestricted authority, has already resulted in a lot of suffering and loss of life. We are looking for ways to increase Kharkiv's ability to protect the sky. This is a task for both our military and diplomats, who are in charge of international communication and must maintain daily dialogue with partners. Ukraine clearly lacks sufficient air defense systems, and this is evident to all of our partners. The world must finally feel the pain caused by Russian terrorists in Kharkiv, Kupyansk, Donetsk region towns, Zaporizhzhia, Sumy region, and many other Ukrainian communities. There are air defense systems around the world that can help. Only political will is required to transfer them to Ukraine. I am grateful to the countries that have already helped. The entire world witnessed allied action in the skies above Israel and neighboring countries. It demonstrated how truly effective unity in defending against terror can be when it is based on sufficient political will. Israel, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and Jordan acted together and with maximum efficiency. Together, they prevented terror from prevailing. And they are working together, and in coordination with others, to prevent further escalation. Israel is not a NATO member, so no action, such as triggering Article 5, was required. And no one was dragged into the war. They simply contributed to the protection of human life. "Shaheds" in the skies above Ukraine sound identical to those over the Middle East. The impact of ballistic missiles, if they are not intercepted, is the same everywhere. European skies could have received the same level of protection long ago if Ukraine had received similar full support from its partners in intercepting drones and missiles. Terror must be defeated completely and everywhere, not more in some places and less in others. I thank everyone in the world, every leader and state, who truly assists us with air defense and missiles necessary to protect our skies, as well as training our pilots on F-16s. All of this already works and will continue to work to save lives. However, we can now see how unity can work truly a hundred percent, and how almost a hundred percent of “Shaheds” and missiles can be intercepted. We will discuss it with our partners.

Only insane people like Putin are capable of killing and terrorizing people in such heinous ways. When we tell world leaders that Ukraine requires adequate air defense protection, that true decisiveness is required to ensure the effective protection of our people's lives and that Russian terrorists cannot even approach our borders, we are literally talking about how not to allow such terrorist strikes. I thank all leaders who truly hear us and understand that every decision in support of Ukraine is about protecting and saving lives. Of course, if we had more adequate and modern air defense systems and aviation, the Russian air fleet would be defeated in the same way that their Black Sea Fleet was. I am grateful to all the states, leaders, and peace ambassadors who are assisting us in preparing for the summit. We will use the remaining weeks before the event to work with dozens of other leaders and countries that we hope to see at the summit. Despite the brutality of Russian pressure and the heinousness of Russian terror, the world must demonstrate that the combined strength of everyone who values life is sufficient to protect it. Such an outcome is critical for every nation because if this rule works in Ukraine, it will work everywhere.

This week alone, Russia has used nearly 630 guided aerial bombs, around 550 strike drones, and over 100 missiles of various types against Ukraine. I am grateful to the warriors defending Ukraine and to our partners who understand our need to bolster Ukraine’s air defenses to save the lives of our people. Now, the world must be united and stronger than ever. Only through strength can we together force Russia and its allies to give up terror and achieve a just peace.

President Zelenskyy: The future is already on the front line - and Ukraine is building it. "In four years, Ukraine has built a new defense industry. One that is large-scale, effective, and impressive in every sense. Our missiles, our unmanned systems, our interceptors, attack and naval drones, reconnaissance systems, artillery, our ammunition, armored vehicles, robotic systems, and much more. Everything that today can truly be proudly called Ukrainian weapons. They protect our skies, our cities and villages, save lives, and prove that 'Made in Ukraine' is synonymous with effectiveness and strength. For this, I thank everyone working in our defense sector, in our arms industry. The capabilities of Ukraine's defense industry mean millions of FPV drones per year, our deep strikes, interceptors, and millions of shells. Ukraine has its own long-range missile weapons. Not just in development, but a real force already at work. Flamingo and Ruta, Peklo and Neptune, Palianytsia and Vilkha - we can already be proud of all of this, but we will not stop here for sure. These are only our first steps. The industry will grow, and the enemy will feel it. Everyone sees the historic long-range reach of our drones - striking 1,750 kilometers from our border. There will be more. And this is not about records – it is about justice that will find evil anywhere in the world."

I want to express gratitude to our air defense warriors—every individual in the various types and branches of our forces who protect our skies. Every night and every day, they intercept Russian Shahed drones and missiles. This morning, they successfully shot down a Russian ballistic missile. Every success like this saves lives. Ukraine is deeply grateful to all our partners who provide interceptor missiles and air defense systems. We are currently working to secure additional supplies—missiles, defense systems, and everything necessary to strengthen our mobile fire groups. Our strategic goal is to reach a practical level of cooperation with our partners that allows us to produce the air defense systems and interceptor missiles we need here in Ukraine. I am grateful to everyone who helps us.

I want to thank our partners for fulfilling their commitments regarding air defense. We set a goal to double the strength of our air shield, and today marks the beginning of this. I am grateful to Germany for the Patriot system, which is already in Ukraine—this is excellent news. Additionally, I thank the United States for taking another step in strengthening our air defense and our Patriots. We continue to work, and new decisions will surely follow. Ukrainians have already proven that there are no Russian missiles we cannot shoot down. We are doing everything possible to ensure Russian terror is defeated.

This night, 34 Russian missiles targeted Ukraine. We managed to intercept a portion of them. However, the world has all of the resources to assist us in intercepting every missile and drone fired by Russian terrorists. This is completely doable. All that is required is for the necessary political decisions and agreements to be implemented. What Ukraine needs is air defense systems, a sufficient quantity and quality of weapons to ensure our frontline actions, as well as prompt delivery and steadfast action. Terror must always fail, and everyone who assists us in combating Russian terror is a true life defender. Ukraine is grateful to the United States and all of our partners for their decisions to support our country and its people. We must make every effort to ensure that life prevails.
