Video start is the thing the largest audience wants to see and hear. Remaining video describes details of everything else at the same event. The video is engaging for its platform. Plays to its audience. Informative throughout. 761,000+ views. 130,000+ likes. Probably made about $500+ itself, too (estimate based on how my own experience with TikTok monetization for videos of this quality & duration). Rather than jetting to the Cromwell for an open bar after the Sony presentation, this creator delivered a timely, informative, engaging, and well-edited piece of content. There are completely different skill sets and the industry is evolving. Both sides should think about how they can learn from things like this and quit bitching at each other.

The hardest part of being a brand designer and content creator isn't having the skills. It's proving them in the wild. I'm Oloba, a full-stack creative brand designer, illustrator, NFT artist, and UGC creator. Over the past 12 months, I worked closely with Zerion and Lyvely as a Content Partner and Brand Ambassador. As a content partner, I created short form videos, long form videos and street-style video contents for X, Instagram, Tiktok and Lyvely. One of the things Mickelly Carlone noticed after moving from Ontario to Alberta was how much friendlier people are here. He said in Ontario, people on the street often don’t even talk to each other. Then he came to Alberta, and one day he got home from work and found out somebody had plowed his entire driveway for free. No announcement. No invoice. No expectation. Just a neighbor seeing something that needed to be done and doing it. That might sound small to some people, but this is one of the things that makes Alberta different. We take pride in helping each other out. When someone is stuck, we help. When someone needs a hand, we show up. When there’s snow to move, a truck to pull out, a neighbor to check on, or a family going through a hard time, Albertans don’t wait around for government to solve it. We just do what needs to be done. Maybe that happens in Ontario too sometimes. But according to my friend, it is not normal there. In Alberta, it is. And that culture is worth protecting. TikTok just quietly installed a new feature onto everyone’s accounts without telling anyone It automatically gives them permission to take your images, your voices, and plug them into AI and use them for whatever content they want to make That means they can now make make AI content that looks like you and say things that sound like you, doing stuff you would never say or do TikTok rolled out a new setting called “Allow AI to Remix Content” - It was turned on by default for existing and new videos. - This allows other users and TikTok’s AI tools to use your video clips, images, and audio to create AI-generated remixes, memes, or new content featuring your likeness and voice If you don’t want this you can opt out However, The opt-out is per video, there is no account wide toggle. You must go into each individual video’s privacy settings to turn it off This make it much more difficult and annoying to opt out every time so eventually you’ll likely just stop opting out and they can steal your likeness for their AI TikTok says this setting is mainly about letting other users remix your content with AI, not necessarily TikTok secretly training models on everything But that’s not true, because training data permissions are covered in their broader terms They are literally stealing your likeness and voice for training models
